Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Fabrication
Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Fabrication
Flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications can be supplied by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd in many bespoke forms, from a pad cut from a sheet of material made up of several layers (usually to achieve non-standard thicknesses) through to 3D spheres or cones which are bonded and routered into shape.
As our premises not only houses state-of-the-art conversion and laminating machinery, it also has extensive storage facilities allowing us to hold stocks of block (buns), rolls and sheets of flame retardant polyethylene, in a range of densities all ready to be converted into one of 1000’s of products including a countless number of fabricated components.
Flame Retardant Polyethylene is just one grade of PE foam available from ASG, sometimes also called Flame Retardant block foam, FR-PE foam, Flame Retardant Polyethylene sponge or LDPE-FR (low density Polyethylene) foam.
Blocks of Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam can be split down to sheets starting from as little as 1.5mm thick, or alternatively made thicker by laminating multiple layers together which is usually needed when constructing a fabrication. Producing a Flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications requires various tools and equipment, usually a combination of saws, drills, buffers, knives and glue - when constructing fabrications, customers will also benefit from us having a CNC oscillating knife, which can automatically buff, cut and drill fabricated parts by reading CAD drawings.
Foam fabrications, such as flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications, are often a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions (as there is no initial die/tooling cost) for the production of bespoke shapes, usually required as 1 off prototypes or small quantity runs. All our flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications are made to order and are produced using samples or drawings provided by customers, taking many forms for example multiple material laminating to create composites sheets, displays & signage (such as logos/lettering), props, costumes and seals with flexible joints or irregular angles.

What Are Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Fabrications?
Flame Retardant Polyethylene foams used in the production of ASG’s fabrications are available in a number of densities which means it can be suited to very different applications, densities in which Polyethylene foam seals can be produced include 25kg, 30kg, 45kg, 60kg, 100kg densities- the density of the foam is measured as the weight or mass of the foam across its entire volume or within a cubic meter (m3).
The denser the foam, the heavier and more compact the material is, this can vary some of the properties of the material and how it performs. Flame retardant polyethylene is a chemically cross-linked foam, which has a uniform, closed cell structure created by a foaming process prior to being cured, producing a lightweight material which is easy to cut and fabricate.
Flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications are the procedure or process of turning blocks or sheets of the material into custom usable shapes or components. Fabrications are created using a combination of CNC machines, saws, drills, buffers, glue, etc, enabling us to create unique products that usually can not be produced by one single process such as press, where the item is too big to be produced in one single piece, or where 3D profiles are required such as cubes or cone shapes.
Supplying fabricated parts also allows us to produce composite sheets (laminating multiple layers of different materials together), before cutting out parts.
Why Use Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Fabrications?
ASG have a team dedicated to the design of flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications and the production of one offs and complex products to use during design and prototype development or when singular items are required.
Flame retardant fabrications are often a cheaper alternative to extrusions or mouldings for production of bespoke shapes as there is no initial die/tooling cost, these are ideal for use as samples or prototypes prior to paying for expensive tooling for mouldings or extrusions for bulk production. Polyethylene foam fabrications regardless of the grade used have the same standard selection of properties - a low compression set, are resistant to water, oils, chemicals and weather, with additives added to produce other grades and thus additional properties, in this case, flame retardant additives, which creates a material that burns slower or will even self-extinguish when exposed to open flames, both of which can help reduce the spread of the fire.
Being made from a closed cell material, these seals have a good tear resistance making them easy to accurately split, saw, drill and convert even using the most vigorous processes perfect for fabrication production.
Advantages Of Using Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Fabrications
One of the most popular materials used in the production of fabrications is Polyethylene as it’s one of the most cost effective materials and also quite readily available from stock.
Flame retardant is made in a choice of densities giving customers the benefit of having a number of advantages, and a choice of properties allowing the material to be utilised in numerous industries and applications - even where there is risk of fire!
Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam, that is used to create Advanced Seals and Gaskets flame retardant polyethylene foam fabrications is a man-made material, with a closed cell structure which can be used in sealing applications against liquid, gases, particles and even the spread of flames. It has a high resistance to wear and tear, Ozone, UV, resilience to repeated impact and a working temperature range of -60°C to +90°C.
It also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control, shock absorption and can be used for thermal insulation. Polyethylene foams including FR grade are aesthetically pleasing, with a nice texture and surface finish, which are easy to fabricate, laminate and cut into parts using a range of techniques and processes for use within the theatrics, building and construction, HVAC, automotive, packaging and sports industries.
