Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd manufacture various fabricated components produced from a range of solid rubber materials, one of which is EPDM. A fabrication often requires a combination of specialist machinery, usually a selection of saws, drills, buffers and knives, alongside the manual adhesion and construction of the finished product.
By choosing ASG for your fabrications, you will benefit from the availability of our CNC oscillating knife, which can automatically cut and drill fabricated parts by reading CAD drawings. Fabrications are often used as a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions for the production of bespoke shapes (as there is no initial die or tooling cost), ideal for when 1 off prototypes or small quantity runs are needed.
All our EPDM rubber fabrications are made to order, produced using samples or drawings provided by customers, and can take many forms including multiple material laminating to create composites sheets which can then be cut down into gaskets/washers/strip, displays & signage (such as logos or lettering) and seals with flexible joints or irregular angles.
What is an EPDM Rubber Fabrication?
EPDM is a synthetic rubber, an abbreviation of Ethylene, Propylene, Diene and Monomer, a durable rubber which can be manufactured in a variety of grades and hardnesses (the shore hardness is measured using a shore durometer which indicates the level of resistance to indentation, the higher number on the scale indicate a greater resistance - harder the material/lower number indicate less resistance- softer the material).
Fabrication is the procedure used to turn the EPDM rubber pieces or sheets of material into custom made 3D usable shapes. Fabrications are created using a combination of CNC machines, saws, drills, buffers etc, enabling us to create unique products that usually can not be produced by one single process for example where the item is too big to be produced in one single piece, or where 3D profiles are required such as cubes or cone shapes.

Why use EPDM Rubber Fabrications?
Rubber fabrications are often used as a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions as there is no initial die or tooling cost for the production of bespoke shapes, these are ideal for use as samples or prototypes prior to paying for expensive tooling for mouldings or extrusions for bulk production.
They are also perfect for producing props, signs, displays and packaging case inserts with routed out shapes to hold specific items in place. Using EPDM fabrications offers a number of benefits including an operating temperature range of -30°C to + 110°C, resistance to environmental exposures such as UV rays, O-zone and weathering making them suitable for both internal and external applications.
EPDM rubber fabrications provide good general resistance to animal and vegetable oils, chemicals, steam, oxygenated solvents and electrical currents, is waterproof and works well under pressure making it the ideal material for use in roofing, deep-sea and solar panel applications, while its noise and vibration insulating properties mean the fabricated parts are often featured in household appliances that call for lower levels of noise and movement.

The tear resistance of the material allows us to accurately cut and bend pieces of material into position to meet our customer's exact specifications without causing damage to the final product.

Different Grades
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with many material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when looking for an EPDM fabrication, other grades of solid EPDM include:
FDA grades - Food quality EPDM is available in blue and white options. This synthetic material is suitable for use in food and pharmaceutical processing applications. Food quality EPDM offers good resistance to animal and vegetable oils, iis non-toxic and has a working temperature of -25°C up to +140°C.
WRAS approved EPDM rubber is suitable for use in potable water applications (water for human consumption) The material is resistant to weathering, ozone, ageing and chemicals and meets standards BS 6920-1:2000 and BS 6920-1:2014. WRAS approved EPDM has a working temperature of -40°C up to +120°C.
Peroxide Cured - Vulcanising or curing EPDM using peroxide (as opposed to Sulphur) produces a more superior material with higher temperature resistance, heat resistance and improved oil and chemical resistance, this material is suitable for demanding applications such as nuclear facilities.
