One of the key products in our range is the Presspahn Gasket, a versatile and reliable insulation solution used across electrical applications.

Presspahn, also referred to in the industry as pressboard, press paper, or elephantide, is designed to provide excellent electrical insulation, protecting conductors from contact with tools or personnel during installation, repairs, or operation of electrical devices. Presspahn is available in paper form on rolls with thicknesses ranging from 0.13mm to 1mm, and in rigid board form with thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 25mm. These can be coated with adhesives or foil facings before being converted into finished gaskets.

Our in-house production team works closely with customers, using drawings or samples to produce gaskets that fit perfectly. From simple square or rectangular gaskets to intricate bespoke profiles, we have the presses and CNC machines to meet any specification.

    What is a Presspahn Gasket?

    Presspahn gaskets are manufactured using electrical-grade kraft wood pulp and designed as a surface insulation material for Class A applications, capable of withstanding short-term high heat exposure. Available in paper or board form, these gaskets can be cut into strips, pads, washers, or more complex shapes, serving as spacers or gap fillers. They restrict the flow of electric current while supporting conductors, offering a safe and reliable insulation solution.

    Other Types of Electrical Insulation Materials Available

    • Epoxy Glass: Green material with strong mechanical, chemical, and electrical resistance; low moisture absorption; up to +120°C operating temperature.

    • Kapton: Polyamide film with excellent mechanical, chemical, electrical, and thermal properties, ideal for extreme vibration and temperature environments.

    • Leatheroid: Grey/blue paper gasket material, sometimes called Elephantide, used to insulate hot elements.

    • MYLAR: Strong, flexible polyester film with excellent dielectric strength and moisture resistance.

    • Nomex: Available as paper or board, it withstands high temperatures and has high mechanical and dielectric strength.

    • Mica: Layers of mica paper bonded with resin, available in rigid or flexible boards for high-quality insulation.

    • SRBF (Resin Bonded Fibre): Tough, rigid material with 120°C operating temperature, resistant to wear, impact, and chemicals.

    • SRBP (Synthetic Resin Bonded Paper): Suited for medium and high-voltage applications, offering excellent mechanical and electrical insulation.

    • Valox: Flame-retardant, high-quality electrical insulation material.

    • PTFE: Non-conductive plastic, ideal for high-temperature insulation applications with excellent dielectric properties.

    • PVC: Lightweight, abrasion, chemical, and moisture-resistant material with good dielectric strength.
