Natural Cork
ASG stock, supply and convert a range of cork materials in roll form, one of which includes a natural cork. Natural cork rolls are manufactured in a number of thicknesses and usually supplied in a standard roll size of 1meter x 10meters long, however as we carry out all our conversation on-site, we can cut these down to shorter widths and lengths. Many of the rolls supplied by ASG can be supplied either plain or laminated with one of our many self-adhesives, foils or with other materials.
What are Natural Cork Rolls?
Natural Cork consists of grains of cork compressed together either with a liquid binder. Natural cork is environmentally friendly and relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber and can be used to produce parts for use in sealing, thermal, acoustic and thermal insulation applications.
Cork is generally manufactured in continuous rolls, for many of our materials the standard roll size is usually 1meter wide x 10meters long, however, cork is manufactured at specific lengths depending upon the material thickness.
Some of these rolls can be manufactured at longer lengths upon request, or we can cut them down into short lengths, sheets or into coils if required.

Product Specification & Key Characteristics
Natural cork rolls as the name states are natural in colour as they do not have any other material compounds added, lightweight and have some flexibility. This material is impermeable to liquids and gases, meaning it is an excellent sealing material and therefore resistant to moisture damage and decay.
Natural cork is a great material for use in thermal, acoustic and vibration insulation applications, providing protection against varying temperatures and chemical or odour contamination.
Cork rolls can be supplied cut into bespoke lengths and widths, laminated with a choice of foils and adhesives and even laminated to other materials for added properties.

Why use Natural Cork Rolls?
Natural cork rolls are often taken as they give the customer and end-users the flexibility to be able to cut their own sheets, strips, pads and gaskets out as and when they are required. Natural Cork rolls and products produced using this material can be found utilized in many industries and is popular thanks to its number of excellent properties including being lightweight, ability to withstand high pressure without degrading and is highly tear-resistant.
This material is a cheaper alternative to some sponge and rubber materials with high mechanical strength, a working temperature range of -80°C - 140°C and is excellent for water and gas sealing applications even when used outdoors.
Natural cork rolls have a wide range of uses from being cut into pinboards and coasters through to gaskets within fuel tanks, the material is chemically inert, doesn’t absorb odours, has thermal, sound and vibration insulation properties therefore often utilised within the automotive industry and as a base material under heavy plant machinery, pumps and compressors to reduce noise and vibration levels.
Benefits of Natural Cork
- Sound Suppression
- Thermal Properties
- Bonded with other materials based on application
- Anti-Vibration
- Resistance to weathering
- Easy to cut/convert
- Non-toxic and safe to work with
- Resistant to mould growth
- Aesthetically more appealing than some rubber alternatives
Different Grades of Cork Available
Along with natural cork, there are other different grades of cork rolls available, each with its own unique characteristics, depending upon the material it is blended. Grades of cork include Neoprene Bonded, Nitrile Bonded and Resin Bonded
Neoprene bonded cork is suited to sealing at higher temperatures and resistant to weathering and oil. Neoprene Bonded cork is suited to oil, engineering, electrical, anti-vibration and soundproofing applications.
Resin-bonded cork – a lightweight, flexible cork, produced using cork granules bound together using a synthetic resin. This grade of cork is resilient to certain acids and is often used in water retaining applications.
Nitrile bonded cork – manufactured using a combination of cork and nitrile rubber granules, giving a speckled appearance. Gaskets made from this material can be used where oil and fuel resistance is required, or where high-temperature resistance is required, industries include automotive and general engineering.
