Reconstituted Polyurethane Foam Rolls
Advanced Seals & Gaskets are leading suppliers and converters of various types and grades of Polyurethane in both foam and solid variants. One such grade is reconstituted polyurethane foam, which is sometimes also called ‘recon’ foam, crumb foam or chip foam, recognisable by its multi-coloured appearance.
Reconstituted PU foam is manufactured in very large master blocks or ‘buns’ usually around 2 metres x 1.5 metres in size and over 1 metre in height or thickness, which are held in stock ready to be split into sheets and joined into continuous lengths (rolls) of materials.
As all of our conversion machines are on-site, we are able to split our rcon foam to as little as 2mm and join into rolls up to 100 metres in length (depending on thickness). These rolls of reconstituted foam can be supplied in full or used to further convert in finished products such as gaskets, strips, washers or pads using one of many machines which include a range of presses, kiss cut machines, log cutters and bandsaws, supplied in a plain finish, coated with one of may foils or self-adhesives and even laminated to other materials to create composites.

What are Reconstituted Polyurethane Foam Rolls?
Chip foam or reconstituted Polyurethane (PU) foam is a recycled material produced and constructed using a mixture of various grades of polyurethane foam off-cuts which are waste and would have otherwise been discarded, such as carcases from gasket production, or trimmings from sheets and rolls which have been cut down to bespoke sizes. The mixture of discarded foam are fed through a large shredder which chips the material down into small pieces. These small ‘chips’ of PU foam and these compresses and bonded together producing a multi-coloured block of material, which can be split down and joined to form continuous rolls of material which can be taken in full or used to convert into finished products. Using state-of-the-art conversion and splitting machines, our rolls can be joined to lengths of up to 100 metres in length and in thicknesses from as little as around 2mm.
Why use Reconstituted Polyurethane Foam Rolls?
Reconstituted Polyurethane foam is an affordable, compact, highly resistant foam and most of all good for the environment as it is recycled!!! Rolls of recon foam can be used to produce parts for use in a range of applications including those where there will be repeated use such as seat cushions in pub benches, public transport, the production of gym mats and also as packing or noise reduction applications.
Reconstituted foam is available in different weights (usually between 4lb and 14lb suited to varying levels of use. Rolls of foam are often used when bigger or multiple products are being cut or larger surface areas need to be covered.
Benefits of Using Reconstituted Foam
- Cushioning
- Compressibility
- Sound Absorption
- Vibration Dampening
- Cost effective
- Insulating
Available Grades of Polyurethane Foam
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a number of material manufacturers, giving our customers more choice when looking for polyurethane foam rolls, our most popular types being:
- Acoustic
- egg box
- Pick & Pluck

Advantages of Using Reconstituted Polyurethane Foam Rolls
Rolls of Reconstituted foam and components cut from them hold many advantageous properties that make the material desirable to many of our customers. The material is cost-effective and eco-friendly as it’s made from recycled off-cuts and leftover pieces from other converted products.
Rolls of Recon foam can be used in production of parts for cushioning, sound and vibration control in industries such as automotive, audio, sports and leisure, aerospace, marine, rail, and domestic manufacturing sectors.
Even though Reconstituted polyurethane is made using a combination of different types of PU foams, it can still be made in different weights and densities by adjusting how much the chips are compressed during production. Using our state of the art equipment and master buns of matero, we are able to manufacture rolls and other products including gaskets, pads, seals and strips, available coated with a choice of foils and self adhesives.
