Neoprene Seals
Neoprene Seals
Advanced Seals & Gaskets produce many seals in the form of washers, gaskets, strips, O-rings, cord and extrusions made in bespoke profiles, all designed to prevent the leakage or ingress of air, fluid or gas. Our customers commonly request such seals in neoprene, either rubber or sponge. This is due to the high water and environmental resistance of neoprene along with the physical strength, durability and versatility of the material.
All our neoprene seals are made to order and are based on dimensions, samples or drawings provided by customers to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application. As each form of seal needs to be manufactured using a different process, ASG has invested heavily in various machinery meaning we can produce both high and low volume neoprene seals. Neoprene seals are a preferred choice in applications where there is exposure to water, chemicals and oil such as construction, aerospace, automotive, marine and agriculture.
What is a Neoprene Seal?
Neoprene is often referred to within the industry as polychloroprene, which is a synthetic rubber, black in colour, which possesses good chemical stability and maintains its structure and flexibility when exposed to a wide spectrum of temperatures.
Neoprene seals are a device or substrate that is used to join surfaces together to either act as a separator or a body to prevent liquids, solids or gases from escaping or penetrating the application.
Neoprene seals can take the form of cut gaskets, strips, washers, extruded profiles and cord, all manufactured using the same material which can be compressed, which in turn ‘hardens’ the material to create a secure seal. Many of our neoprenes can be supplied with a choice of self-adhesives which assists with placement of the seal and to hold it in position.

Seals
Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we offer seals in an array of materials such as EPDM, Silicone, Solid rubber, Cork, Plastics, Polyethylene, Polyurethane and PVC foam to name just a few.
Seals are designed to prevent leakages once compressed between irregular surfaces, having the incorrect shape, size or material would cause the gasket to fail, all of our seals are manufactured using specialised machinery, as we understand the final cut and finish of the seal needs to be perfect.
Why use Neoprene Seals?
There are many different forms and profiles of neoprene seals, but as they are produced using the exact same material, they will still all possess the same mechanical properties making it a popular choice across many industries.
Neoprene rubber is an excellent material for creating an air, dust and watertight seal, it has excellent ageing properties, being resilient to ozone, sunlight, oxidation and UV exposure and not becoming brittle over time.
Neoprene rubber seals are resistant to oil, chemically inert, flame retardant and have a wide working temperature range of -20°C to +70℃. Neoprene rubber seals are a popular choice for outdoor sealing applications and for sealing components within the automotive industry such as window/door seals, pumps, hydraulics and within flanges.
Benefits of Neoprene Seals
- Popular for external & automotive sealing applications
- Durable
- Variety of Grades & profiles available
- Impermeable to water and dust
- Moderate resistance to oil, chemical greases and fats.
- Excellent resistance to ozone, weathering and ageing
Advantages of Using Neoprene Seals
Neoprene rubber seals can be used in many industries thanks to the number of excellent properties and the various grades available.
Neoprene rubber seals are utilised where a durable, strong, abrasive material is required in an environment where exposure or sealing against extreme weather, water, salts, oil grease, UV/Ozone and gases is necessary. Neoprene rubber material is readily available in a range of thicknesses making the process of cutting certain seals a quick process, however more complex extrusions will take longer due to the processes involved.
The strength and tear resistance of the material also allows us to accurately cut or extrude seals to meet our customer exact specifications.
Different Grades
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with many material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when designing their neoprene rubber seal. Neoprene rubber seals can be supplied in a number of grades and hardnesses, some of the main ones being:
(BS2752) British standard 2752 is a higher performing, stronger grade of neoprene rubber which offers a wider working temperature range of -30°C up to +120°C, greater resistance to ageing, weathering, acids, inorganic salts, oils and ozone as well as improved strength and anti-abrasion qualities in comparison to standard neoprene. This grade is available inshore hardnesses of 40°, 50°, 60°, 70° and 80°.
Flame retardant neoprene rubber seals can handle continuous temperatures of -30°C to +100°C, this material meets the test requirements of the flammability standard UL94-V0 and is in line with ISO 340. Flame retardant neoprene rubber sheets are also tested in accordance with anti-static BS 490.
Food Quality (FDA) neoprene is white in colour and conforms to EC and FDA regulations for use within the food processing and pharmaceutical industries. Properties including resistance to fats, greases and vegetable oils, combined with higher tensile strength and wider working temperature range of -30°C up to +130°C make it a popular material to use.
Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene or type of seal you require for your application, samples of our materials are readily available for your perusal.
