Conductive Polyethylene Foam Sheets

Conductive Foam Sheet

Sheets of materials, including various grades of Polyethene foam (used to create our conductive polyethene foam sheets), are stocked and converted by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd (ASG). These materials are among the most popular and durable foam types supplied.

Conductive polyethene foam sheets are utilised across a wide range of industries and applications, from gaskets and tapes to custom packaging inserts. They are available in multiple densities, each with unique properties.

One such grade is Conductive Polyethene, an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)- safe foam designed for packaging and insulation. Like most other PE foams, it is manufactured in block form, typically 2m x 1m, and can be split into as thin as 1.5mm sheets using our state-of-the-art in-house conversion facilities.

These conductive polyethylene foam sheets can be supplied as full sheets or converted into a range of finished products, including:

  • Pads

  • Strips

  • Washers

  • Gaskets

  • Bespoke routered case inserts

Our facilities also include a laminating division, allowing sheets to be coated on one or both faces, laminated together to create greater depth, or combined with other materials to produce composite sheets.

What Are Conductive Polyethylene Foam Sheets?

Conductive polyethylene foam sheets are a type of ESD foam with carbon added to the compound mix, producing:

    • Deep black colour

    • Surface resistance of <10⁶ ohms

    • High levels of conductivity

This allows electrical current to safely pass through the foam, preventing damage to the protected product or component. Unlike some ESD foams, conductive polyethylene foam sheets are permanently conductive, making them suitable for repeated transport and handling.

Sheets are typically supplied in 2m x 1m blocks, which can be cut into 1m sheets, smaller pads, or custom parts for specific applications.

Why Use Conductive Polyethylene Foam Sheets?

These sheets are essential in production, packaging, and transport, where fragile or high-value items require extra protection.

Electrical goods and components are naturally prone to damage from electrostatic charge. Static discharge can occur from contact or friction, leading to short circuits or dielectric breakdown.

Conductive PE foam sheets mitigate this risk by:

    • Conducting charges safely through the foam

    • Reducing the likelihood of shock or discharge

    • Offering a cost-effective solution by minimising waste

Sheets are preferred for small amounts of material, saving money while providing superior protection.

Benefits Of Using Conductive Polyethylene Foam Sheets

    • Permanent ESD protection

    • Ideal for multi-repeat use in packaging, storage, and in-plant handling

    • Controlled and safe transfer of static charges

    • Available in full sheets or custom-cut parts

    • Soft, cushioning material

    • Reduces the cost of replacing damaged items

    • Closed-cell structure protects from moisture.

Advantage Of Using Conductive Polyethylene Foam Sheets

Conductive PE foam sheets offer multiple advantages for maintaining a safe environment, protecting expensive components, and saving money.

    Key properties include:

    • Tear and impact resistance

    • Shock and vibration absorption

    • Resistance to water, grease, solvents, and chemicals

    • The closed-cell structure prevents mould and bacterial growth, as well as moisture absorption.

    • Odourless, non-toxic (unless ignited), and non-corrosive

Sheets can be split, laminated, or cut into custom profiles and inserts to provide added protection against impact, movement, and static charge, helping manufacturers avoid costly product replacements.

    Applications

Conductive PE foam sheets are used in industries and applications, including:

    • Medical devices

    • Handheld electronics

    • Display units (LCD/LED)

    • Telecommunications equipment

These sheets provide reliable protection against ESD, impact, and environmental damage, making them a preferred solution for sensitive and high-value components.
