As one of the UK's leading material converters, suppliers, and stockists of non-metallic materials, Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd provides a wide range of products, including foil-faced acoustic polyurethane foam. This specialised material is used to produce acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets for various industrial and commercial applications.

In our in-house facilities, we process large master blocks of polyurethane foam, typically measuring 2m × 1.2m, into sheets of various thicknesses, starting from 1.5mm. These sheets are then enhanced with a foil facing, creating durable, acoustic foil-faced foam sheets that meet precise acoustic, thermal, and protective requirements.

Our state-of-the-art machinery allows us to convert these sheets into smaller components, including gaskets, pads, and strips. This flexibility enables us to offer competitive pricing, short lead times, and high-quality finished products.

Additionally, our laminating and adhesive services enable the use of foil-faced acoustic foam rolls, which can feature foil on one or both sides, as well as options for self-adhesive backing or lamination with other materials. This versatility ensures that we can meet the specific needs of every customer.

Why Use Acoustic Foam

Class O acoustic foam is a versatile material widely used for sound, vibration, and thermal insulation across various industries, including engineering, construction, automotive, and HVAC.

Primarily, this foam excels in sound reduction, controlling reverberation and reducing reflected noise from walls, floors, and ceilings. Its applications extend beyond soundproofing due to its fire-resistant and thermal insulation properties.

The foil facing enhances thermal insulation and heat reflection. Aluminium foil acts as a heat barrier, improves vibration and noise resistance, and adds durability. This makes the material suitable for use in plant machinery, hydraulic enclosures, engine compartments, and compressor housings.

Foil-faced acoustic foam sheets are available in multiple thicknesses (from 1.5mm) and can be supplied with:

  • Foil on one or both faces

  • Foil on one face with self-adhesive backing

  • Laminated combinations with other materials to create composite acoustic solutions

What is Acoustic Foam?

Foil-faced polyurethane foam is a composite material combining Class O acoustic foam (lightweight, open-cell) with aluminium foil layers. This combination provides acoustic control, noise and vibration management, as well as thermal insulation.

When used as sound absorption panels or flooring underlays, these sheets reduce sound wave amplitude, effectively minimising noise while dissipating energy as heat for improved environmental comfort.

The Class O acoustic foam used is:

  • Flame-retardant, compliant with UL-94 V-0 and BS476 parts 6 & 7

  • Non-toxic, free of HCFs and CFCs

  • Resistant to fungi, dust-free, and durable

Applications include marine, construction, automotive, HVAC, and manufacturing environments.

During conversion, aluminium foil is laminated to the foam, adding fire resistance and durability. Foil-faced acoustic foam can be supplied as rolls (typically 10m) or pre-cut sheets, providing flexibility for custom applications.

The aluminium foil backing reflects heat, providing thermal insulation and helping regulate temperature in spaces such as recording studios or equipment rooms.

Foil-faced foam is resistant to moisture and oils, making it suitable for damp environments or areas exposed to fluids.

The foil layer and high-quality foam ensure long-lasting performance, even in the most demanding industrial conditions.

The smooth foil surface is easy to maintain, ideal for healthcare or hygiene-sensitive applications.

The reflective foil enhances visual appeal, giving a modern and professional appearance for applications where aesthetics are essential.

The foil backing contributes to thermal insulation, helping maintain stable temperatures and improving energy efficiency.
