Butyl Rubber Sheet

Butyl Rubber Sheets – High-Performance Synthetic Rubber

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd (ASG) supplies solid Butyl rubber sheets in the UK, offering a versatile material solution for demanding industrial and commercial applications. Also known as Isobutylene-Isoprene Rubber (IIR) or Polyisobutylene (PIB), Butyl rubber is valued for its impermeability, UV and ozone resistance, and thermal stability, making it ideal for applications requiring air, gas, or moisture sealing.

We stock rolls of solid Butyl rubber in a range of thicknesses, starting from 1mm, and in sizes of 1.4m x 10m. These rolls can be cut down into sheets, pads, or smaller components, such as washers, strips, or gaskets. All conversions are completed in-house using state-of-the-art machinery, including presses, kiss-cut machines, bandsaws, and CNC cutters.

What Are Solid Butyl Rubber Sheets?

Butyl rubber sheets are manufactured by blending isobutylene with isoprene, resulting in a synthetic elastomer (PIB) with exceptional properties for industrial applications. These sheets are flexible, durable, and highly impermeable, making them suitable for applications where air and gas retention are critical.

    Common characteristics include:

    • UV & ozone resistance

    • Excellent weathering properties

    • Low gas and vapour permeability

    • Thermal stability for high and low temperature applications

Customers often prefer the sheet form for easier handling and conversion into bespoke components, providing them with flexibility in manufacturing washers, gaskets, and seals as required.

Why Use Solid Butyl Rubber Sheets?

Solid Butyl rubber sheets are widely used in high-pressure and high-performance applications, including:

    • Compressed air pipelines and vacuum sealing

    • Gas retention and air seals

    • Sports-ball bladders, tubeless tyres, and inner tubes

    • Pond liners, tank liners, and waterproofing membranes

    • Shock-absorbing mounts and vibration-resistant bushings

    • Gas mask production

The thermostable, flexible nature of Butyl rubber allows it to resist flex cracking, abrasion, tear, and impact, while remaining effective in both indoor and outdoor environments.

    Benefits of Butyl Rubber Sheets

    • Impermeable to air, gas, and moisture

    • Excellent UV & ozone resistance

    • Wide operating temperature range

    • Shock and vibration absorption

    • Superior sealing and flexible performance

    • Durable against abrasion, tear, and impact

Advantages of Using Solid Butyl Rubber Sheets

Using Butyl rubber sheets provides multiple advantages for industrial and commercial applications:

    • Flexible at low temperatures while maintaining performance at high temperatures (-40°C to +140°C)

    • Easy to convert into gaskets, washers, or other components

    • Prevents degradation from UV, ozone, heat, moisture, and certain chemicals

    • Ideal for air retention and gas sealing in applications like tubeless tyres, vacuum seals, and sports equipment

    • Reduces material waste compared to full roll purchases due to the availability of cut sheets

By offering sheet form alongside rolls and converted parts, ASG ensures customers can get exactly the right amount of material for their application while minimising waste.

Other Types of Solid Rubber Available

ASG provides a wide range of solid rubber materials beyond Butyl, including:

    • Neoprene

    • EPDM

    • Silicone

    • Polyurethane

    • Nitrile

    • Hyalon

    • Insertion Rubber

    • Shotblast

This diverse portfolio ensures that customers can select the ideal material for their sealing, vibration-damping, or waterproofing requirements.
