Natural Cork Strip
Advanced Seals & Gaskets are leading manufacturers of many types of strip materials, one of which is natural cork, all produced in our newly renovated facilities using a selection of bandsaws, strippers, log cutters or presses depending on the size and quantity required.
Access to multiple conversion machinery allows us to offer an extensive range of strips, from very small strips supplied in a kiss-cut form on rolls to coils of a log cut strips in lengths of 10mtrs long or more. Our in-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high-quality strips to perfectly match our customer's specifications.
Our natural cork strips are cut from sheets or rolls of material that are manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses, which can be laminated with a choice of foils or self-adhesive tapes during the conversion process.
What are Natural Cork Strips?
At ASG we manufacture bespoke cork strips made to order using dimensions, samples or drawings provided by our customers to ensure we supply the exact length, width, thickness and finish required. Natural cork consists of grains of cork compressed together with a liquid binder known as ‘agglomeration’.
Natural cork is environmentally friendly and relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber, flexible, lightweight, waterproof and practical, suitable for a range of uses including gasket tape/strip for gap sealing, isolation strips for vibration and noise absorption, outdoor furniture, lighting, engineering, automotive, building & construction, etc.

Product Specification & Key Characteristics
Natural cork strips do not have any other material compounds added so retains its natural ‘wood’ colour, it is lightweight, has some flexibility, impermeable to liquids and gases, meaning it is an excellent sealing material and therefore resistant to moisture damage and decay.
Natural cork strips are great for use in thermal, acoustic and vibration control applications such as wall/floor insulation or base material under heavy machinery or compressors, providing protection against varying temperatures and chemical or odour contamination.
Cork strips can be supplied cut into bespoke lengths and widths, laminated with a choice of foils and adhesives and even laminated to other materials.

Why use Natural Cork Strips?
Natural cork strips can be found utilized in many industries and are popular thanks to their number of excellent properties including being lightweight, the ability to withstand high pressure without degrading and are highly tear-resistant.
This material is a cheaper alternative to some sponge and rubber materials with high mechanical strength, a working temperature range of -80°C - 140°C and is excellent for water and gas sealing applications even when used outdoors.
Natural cork is easy to cut into strips, holds adhesive well and due to its flexible nature will fit and adhere to most surfaces.
Benefits of using Natural Cork Strips
- Sound Suppression
- Thermal Properties
- Bonded with other materials based on application
- Anti-Vibration
- Resistance to weathering
- Easy to cut/convert
- Non-toxic and safe to work with
- Resistant to mould growth
- Aesthetically more appealing than some rubber alternatives
Different Grades of Cork Available
Along with natural cork, there are other different grades of cork strips available, each with its own unique characteristics, depending upon the material it is blended. Grades of cork include Neoprene Bonded, Nitrile Bonded and Resin Bonded
Neoprene bonded cork is suited to sealing at higher temperatures and resistant to weathering and oil. Neoprene Bonded cork is suited to oil, engineering, electrical, anti-vibration and soundproofing applications.
Resin-bonded cork – a lightweight, flexible cork, produced using cork granules bound together using a synthetic resin. This grade of cork is resilient to certain acids and is often used in water retaining applications.
Nitrile bonded cork – manufactured using a combination of cork and nitrile rubber granules, giving a speckled appearance. Gaskets made from this material can be used where oil and fuel resistance is required, or where high-temperature resistance is required, industries include automotive and general engineering.
