Nitrile Insertion Strip

Nitrile Insertion Strip

Nitrile Insertion Strip

Working with a wide network of material suppliers and manufacturers, enables us to convert and supply a huge range of solid rubber strips, sometimes referred to as gasket strip, sealing strip or isolation strip.  Nitrile Insertion rubber strips are just one type  which are manufactured in-house by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd.

As with all solid rubber, nitrile insertion rubber is manufactured in roll form at 1.4 meters wide x 10 meters long, in thicknesses starting at just 1 mm from which strips can be cut. Nitrile Insertion rubber strips are manufactured by our highly skilled workforce using state of the art machinery, who by following our customers' samples or drawings, can produce made to measure nitrile insertion rubber strips using our band saws, strippers, log cutters and even presses depending upon the size and quantity required. In-house conversion allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitively priced strips.

Our nitrile insertion rubber strips are cut from rolls, which are manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses starting at just 1mm, these can be supplied coated with a self adhesive backing or laminated to other materials, which can then be cut into strips from 4mm wide and in a choice of 10 mtr long coils or pre-cut shorter lengths. Nitrile insertion rubber strips are commonly used in automotive and aerospace sealing applications as the material has excellent resistance to oils, fuels and gases.

Key Characteristics of Solid Nitrile Insertion Rubber:

    • Shore Hardness: 60°
    • Reinforced cloth/cotton insertion layer to provide increased tensile strength over commercial rubber
    • Offers good abrasion resistance.
    • Working temperature: -30°C up to +70°C.
    • Good Compression
    • Good level of resistance against common industrial factors such as Oils, Fuels & Solvents

What are Solid Nitrile Insertion Rubber Strips?

Solid nitrile insertion rubber is manufactured to the same specification as standard nitrile rubber (Nitrile butadiene  or NBR rubber), a synthetic rubber material produced from a copolymer of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene, with good abrasion properties and resistance to fuels, petrols and oils. Nitrile Insertion rubber strips have all of these excellent properties, but with a mesh/fabric reinforcement layer running through the centre which is referred to as the ‘insertion’, used to prevent the material from stretching, therefore increasing its wear and tear resistance.

Nitrile Insertion rubber strips are cut from sheets or rolls of material to order, meaning we can supply them to meet your exact specifications in terms of lead time, size and finish. Nitrile rubber strips can be used for noise and vibration control applications  or as gasket, placed between two surfaces to create a low pressure seal preventing the leakage of dust, liquids or gas. Due to its  excellent resistance to many fuels, oils and grease, and physical properties of good abrasion and tear resistance, nitrile rubber gaskets are often a first choice for use within automotive, oil and aerospace industries.

Why use Solid Nitrile Insertion Rubber Strips?

Strips manufactured from Nitrile insertion rubber offer a countless number of excellent properties and are excellent for creating air, dust and water tight seals. They have an excellent tensile strength, anti- abrasion properties and resistance to petrol, mineral & vegetable oils and some acids and alkalis.

The material also has some flame retardancy, and a working temperature range of -20°C to +70℃, usually manufactured in a 65°shore hardness (the shore hardness is measured using a shore durometer which indicates  the level of resistance to indentation ,the higher number on the scale indicate a greater resistance - harder the material/lower number indicate less resistance- softer the material).

Benefits Of Using Nitrile Insertion Strips

    • Resistant to many chemicals and solvents
    • Suitable for automotive industries
    • Water, mineral oil, petrol  resistance.
    • Can be formed into complex seals and extrusions
    • Abrasive resistant and excellent mechanical strength
    • Excellent seal against gasses
    • Tear and stretch resistance

    Different Grades of Insertion Rubber

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material suppliers and manufacturers, meaning we have access to various grades of insertion rubber which include:

SBR Insertion rubber (Styrene-butadiene rubber) is a cost effective, commercial grade, general purpose rubber with good abrasion resistance, tensile strength and low compression set.  SBR rubber is not suitable for applications involving chemicals, ozone, very strong acids, grease, fat oils and hydrocarbons.

Neoprene insertion rubber (CR) Solid Neoprene is one of our most popular solid rubber materials, with various thicknesses  held in stock. Neoprene is suitable for use where there is exposure to grease, oil, acids, ozone and even sea water.

Solid EPDM insertion rubber (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) another very popular solid rubber  great for use in outdoor applications.  This material is resistant to water, UV, ozone, weather, abrasion, alkalines, ketones and diluted acids.

Advantages of using Solid Nitrile Insertion Rubber Strips

Many industries use solid Nitrile Insertion rubber for its resistance to ‘swell’ when exposed to oils and fuel, therefore holding its sealing capabilities without breaking down or corroding, making it a popular choice for the production of automotive gaskets, abrasive applications, oil and fuel seals, insulating and isolation barriers.

Industries where these strips can be found include mining, quarrying, construction, automotive, oil, gas, defence, etc. Nitrile insertion rubber strips are generally cut from stock rolls or sheets produced at standard thicknesses, meaning they can usually be turned around within a fairly minimal lead time as there is no need for the material to be split to thickness.
