Nitrile Strip

Nitrile Strip

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we manufacture 1000’s of high-quality nitrile strips each day, these strips are sometimes referred to as gasket strip, sealing strip or isolation strip. Nitrile strips are all manufactured by our highly skilled workforce using state of the art machinery, following our customer's samples or drawings.

We can produce made to measure nitrile strips using our band saws, strippers, log cutters and even presses depending upon the size and quantity required. In-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitively priced strips.

Our nitrile strips are cut from rolls, which are manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses starting at just 1mm, these can be supplied coated with a self-adhesive backing or laminated to other materials, which can then be cut into strips from 4mm wide and in a choice of 10mtr long coils or pre-cut shorter lengths. Nitrile rubber strips are commonly used in automotive and aerospace sealing applications as the material has excellent resistance to oils, fuels and gases.

What is a Nitrile Strip?

Nitrile rubber is sometimes also referred to as Nitrile butadiene or NBR rubber, which is a synthetic rubber produced from a copolymer of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene, a solid rubber that has good abrasion properties and resistance to fuels, petrol and oils.  Nitrile rubber strips are cut from sheets or rolls to order, meaning we can supply them to meet your exact specifications in terms of lead time, size and finish.

Nitrile rubber strips can be used for noise/vibration control applications or as a gasket/seal, placed between two surfaces to create a low-pressure seal preventing the leakage of dust, liquids or gas. Due to its excellent resistance to many fuels, oils and grease, and physical properties of good abrasion and tear resistance, nitrile rubber gaskets are often the first choice for use within automotive, oil and aerospace industries.

    Why use Nitrile Strip?

Nitrile rubber strips have many excellent properties and are available in different shore hardnesses and grades each suited to different industries. Nitrile rubber is an excellent material for creating air, dust and watertight seal, with good tensile strength, anti-abrasion properties and resistance to petrol, mineral & vegetable oils and some acids and alkalis.

The material has some flame retardancy, and a working temperature range of -20°C to +70℃.  Nitrile rubber strips are mostly recognised by the material's resistance to ‘swell’ when under exposure to oils and fuel, therefore holding its sealing capabilities. Nitrile rubber strips are a popular choice for automotive belting & fuel pump diaphragms, hoses, o-rings, and oil seals within engines, hydraulics and flanges.

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material manufacturers, meaning we have access to various grades of nitrile rubber and can produce seals in any size or quantity using our specialist in-house cutting facilities.   Some of the other grades include:

(British Standard ) BS 2751 Nitrile is higher quality synthetic elastomer compared to commercial nitrile in terms of it’s improved elongation at break, tensile strength and resistance to a broader temperature range of -30°C up to +110°C.  BS2751 nitrile is manufactured inshore hardnesses of 40° to 80°.

Blue Metal detectable nitrile rubber is a synthetic elastomer that is manufactured with an additive visible to metal detector scanners.  This grade of material has excellent tear and abrasion resistance and is suitable for food, beverage and pharmaceutical applications as a way of detecting and reducing contamination.

Food Quality (FDA) Nitrile rubber is available in white or blue colour options, both conforming to  EC & FDA regulations, for use within food and pharmaceutical processing industries where the material needs to be resistant to vegetable oils, animal fats, fish oils and greases.

    Benefits of Nitrile Strip

    • Water, mineral/oil, petrol resistance.
    • Can be cut into any size with a range of finishes
    • Abrasive resistant
    • Water Proof
    • Excellent sea against gasses
    • Excellent for automotive applications

    Advantages of Using Nitrile Strip

There are many advantages to using Nitrile rubber strips as the material is highly versatile and robust, this matched with the high resistance to oils, gases, fuels, grease, water and most acids makes Nitrile rubber seals highly sought after in many industries including automotive, construction, oil and aerospace.

Nitrile rubber strips are highly effective as noise/vibration reduction strips, and as seals used to keep out dust particles and liquids.  The high resistance and durability of nitrile rubber strips mean the seals are long-lasting and can be easily cut into the desired profile without the risk of tearing or stretching the material.
