SRBF Washers
SRBF Washers
Washers can be manufactured using a multitude of materials including plastics, foams, rubber, cork, sponge and more speciality types, many of which can be used in very specialist sealing, insulating or gasketing applications.
One such group of products offered from our vast catalogue are various types of electrical insulation washers, with one type being Synthetic Resin Bonded Fibre, sometimes also called SRBF, Synthetic Resin Bonded Fabrics or fabric based laminates. SRBF is available in a wide range of thicknesses including 0.8mm, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm and 20mm with a standard sheet size of 1220mm x 1220mm from which washers can be cut or pressed.
Our SRBF electrical insulation washers are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high spec machinery in practically any size and quantity, with a plain or self-adhesive finish to one or both faces and in a choice of individually cut parts or kiss cut in roll for quick and easy application.
SRBF Fibre jointing washers are produced using samples, dimensions or drawings provided by our customers which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and the thickness from a one off sample to multi-thousand runs, we have a machine to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets in a range of sizes, these include a number of presses and CNC machines.

What Are SRBF Electrical Insulation Washers?
A washer is a flattened ‘ring’ of material with an ID (inner diameter) and OD (outer diameter), which is placed between two surfaces to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, it creates a smooth, level surface for nuts and bolts to rest on, to create a better fit for fixtures and fittings and can be used as a air/water tight seal. SRBF fibre jointing washers can also be used for electrical insulation, restricting the flow of electric current, by supporting electrical conductors - without allowing the current to pass through.
These electrical insulation washers are manufactured using SRBF or Synthetic Resin Bonded Fibre, a ‘phenolic’ material made up of layers, in this case using cotton cloth which is placed into a resin or varnish and bound together to create a high strength electrically insulating material which can be used to convert many components and products.
Why Use SRBF Electrical Insulation Washers?
SRBF Fibre jointing washers are often used as electrical insulators as they do just that - insulate! Providing a barrier to restrict the flow of electrical current, protecting electrical conductors from coming into contact with people or tools during installation, repairs or when an electrical appliance or device is being used.
SRBF Electrical insulation washers also prevent electrical arcing (electrical current flows through the air between two conductors, as a result of the electrical breakdown of gas that produces an ongoing electrical discharge) and are used in other electrical insulation applications.
SRBF material is recognised for it’s excellent wear resistance and electrical insulation properties, they are also rigid, lightweight, dimensionally stable therefore suitable for low voltage and abrasive applications and can be easily machined into intricately cut washers for use in low or medium voltage applications where a more wear resistant material is required.
SRBF electrical insulation washers can be cut and supplied as finished products, or supplied in full sheets for customers and end users to cut their own as and when required.
The Benefits of Using SRBF Electrical Insulation
- Offers enhanced machinability
- Low creep, dimensionally stable, wear resistance, low water absorption
- Excellent electrical insulating properties and chemical resistance
- Operating Temperature up to +115°C continuous
- Resistance to corrosion effects, weathering and low moisture resistance
- Multiple grades available
Grades Of SRBF Fibre Jointing Available
SRBF Fine Weave (smooth) - manufactured to meet- BS EN 60893 Standard: 3-4-PFCC305. This smooth grade material offers excellent chemical resistance, electrical insulation and many other mechanical properties, suitable for intricately cut/machined components.
SRBF Fine Weave (coarse) - manufactured to meet BS EN 60893 Standard: 3-4-PFCC203, with every similar properties to the smooth grade but due to the texture isn't suited for intricate machining.
SRBF Medium Weave - manufactured to BS EN 60893 Standard: 3-4-PFCC201, is a great general purpose fabric material, offering high strength, wear resistance and low voltage electrical insulation.
SRBF (commercial) - is a more affordable alternative to the medium weave, manufactured to meet BS EN 60893 Standard: 3-4-PFCC203.
Advantages Of Using SRBF Electrical Insulation Washers
Washers manufactured from SRBF or Synthetic Resin Bonded Fibre materials offer users a number of advantages, many of which are similar to those of SRBP (synthetic resin bonded paper), but with better load bearing capabilities in comparison.
SRBF electrical insulation washers are used in applications where a dimensionally stable, impact resistant and rigid material is required for use in abrasive and low voltage applications and in comparison to plastics, also offering low creep and corrosive resistant properties.
These SRBF electrical insulation washers are available in a range of thicknesses from 0.8mm up to 20mm, all of which can be supplied in a plain or self adhesive backed finish for use as gears, spacers, abrasive barriers or seals for use in wide range of high temperature applications, including in the automotive, electrical, white goods, lighting and energy markets.
