HIP plastic washers

HIP Washers

Plastic washers are just one of thousands of products available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets’ catalogue, available in numerous grades, colours, thicknesses, finishes and sheet sizes, one of which includes HIP plastics or High Impact Polystyrene. HIP plastics, used to create HIP plastic washers, can be supplied in a range of sheet sizes up to 1980 x 1372 and thicknesses from between 0.5mm and 6mm from which washers can be cut.

All our washers, including our HIP plastic washers, are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high-spec machinery, using either our CNC oscillating knife or one of our many presses (for very thin washers), however very bespoke HIP plastic washers can also be produced using moulding or vacuum forming techniques. Our range of machinery means we can manufacture HIPS plastic washers to match your specified dimensions in any quantity quickly and efficiently, supplied with a choice of self adhesives or foils, which in return passes on a quality product and a cost saving.

    What Are HIP Plastic Washers?

High Impact Polystyrene or HIP plastics are sometimes also called ‘Polystyrene or PS’. HIP sheets are a type of thermoplastic ( a polymer which can be melted repeatedly and re-formed), which is produced using tough polystyrene resins.

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is a relatively inexpensive, lightweight and customisable material which can be cut, punched or moulded into washers of just about any size and in grades such as FDA, flame retardant and conductive to name a few. A ‘washer’ is a flat piece of material which is placed between two surfaces or between joints in order to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, creating a level surface for nuts, bolts and other fixings to rest on, improving the fit for fixings and can be used as a water or air tight seal. HIP plastic washers are produced using either samples, drawings or dimensions provided by customers, which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and the Thickness, manufactured in a plain or self-adhesive finish.

    Why Use HIP Plastic Washers?

HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) plastic washers can be used for many general purpose applications which require high impact strength and stiffness often used for low strength structural applications when strength and machinability at a low cost are required.

HIP Plastic is easy to cut, fabricate, paint and glue and are available in a range of colours, grades and finishes making them not only perfect for the production of samples and prototypes but also for washers for use within food processing and packaging. HIP plastic washers can be cut and converted into a range of intricate sized washers using various techniques including laser cutting, die cutting, sawing and even thermoforming (where the material is heated until it is soft, re-shaped and then left to cool and harden).

Advantages Of Using HIP Plastic Washers

Using HIP plastic sheets offers a number of advantages to its users, the material itself is strong and impact resistant which can be easily converted by way of sawing, punching, routering and moulding, all whilst being a cost effective material.

HIP plastic washers are highly versatile as the material is manufactured in a range of colours, grades and finishes for use in various applications ranging from spacers in point of sale displays, toys and even in very demanding industries such as medical and food production or packaging where stringent health & safety standards must be met.

Using HIP washers offer a whole host of benefits, not only are they cheaper and lighter in weight in comparison to metal and some sponge options, but also offer more resistance to wear and corrosion (will not rust unlike metal), they can be adhered to surfaces and other materials using glue and also have a paintable/printable surface which means the number of uses for this material are endless.

    Other Types of Plastic Available
