Solid Viton Rubber

Advanced Seals & Gaskets supply a diverse range of material types, some of which are designed for unique industries and applications, one such material is solid Viton rubber, which is specially formulated to resist extreme temperatures and harsh chemicals.

Viton rubber is sometimes referred to as Fluoroelastomer (abbreviated to FKM) which is manufactured in roll form with thicknesses starting at 0.5mm, from which ASG can cut and convert various other products including sheets, gaskets, washers or strips, supplied with a plain or self-adhesive finish using our in-house laminating service.

Viton rubber can be produced in various grades each with its own levels of resistance, produced for use in different applications and environments.

What is Viton Rubber?

Viton rubber is fluoroelastomer, a synthetic rubber that is fluorocarbon-based developed for high temperature and chemical resistance. This material is manufactured in roll form starting at 1mm thick, and in 50° shore to 70° shore hardnesses. Viton rubber can be supplied in full rolls of material, sheets, cut or moulded parts in a range of bespoke shapes, sizes and often with a choice of finishes including foils, self-adhesives or laminated with other materials.

    Why use Viton Rubber?

There are many advantageous reasons to use Viton rubber and it is often a go-to material for applications requiring a high-performance product to meet the demands that cannot be achieved using other polymers such as EPDM or Neoprene.

Viton rubber and products produced from Viton rubber can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -20° to 315°C (depending on the grade used) and can maintain its physical and mechanical properties without breaking down even when used with water, acids, petrol, chemicals and oil due to it’s excellent resistance to these.

Viton rubber is a popular choice of material for use with the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, and chemical industries - an FDA approved grade is also available for food and drink processing industries.

The Advantages of Using Viton Rubber

There are many advantages to using Viton rubber as the material is a high performance, versatile and durable, able to withstand high temperatures, is oil and chemical resistant (even at high temperatures) and will not degrade as easily as other elastomers over time when in contact with chemicals and fluids such as oil, acids, ozone or UV.

Other grades of Viton rubber are available to order for use in a range of specific industries including the transportation of diesel, oil or petrol refineries and chemical plants, details of which can be made available upon request.

Viton rubber is available in a range of standard thicknesses and can be used to convert into a number of other products such as gaskets, strips, rolls, washers or moulded into sleeve, tubes and other components.

    Benefits of Using Viton Rubber

    • Environmental resistance (Ozone, weathering, UV)
    • High Chemical Resistance
    • Weather Resistant
    • Wide operating temperature range
    • Resistance to acid, oil and petroleum-based fluids
    • Withstand Challenging Environments

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a network of material suppliers and manufacturers, meaning we can offer Viton rubber in various grades, the most popular of which are detailed below:

Viton Rubber-Type B - has very similar properties and resistances to Type A, but has a greater fluorine content, which gives it better resistance to fluids and sulfur dioxide, better flexibility after heat exposure and a temperature range of -30°C up to +300°C. Type B is generally used in the most demanding applications and industries such as chemical and power generation.

Viton FDA grades are available in blue or white options.  This grade is suitable for use for food or pharmaceutical production even at high temperatures.  FDA grade Viton rubber is extremely resistant to animal fats, oils, acids, chemicals and petroleum.
