20PPI Reticulated Polyurethane Foam
20PPI Reticulated Polyurethane Foam
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are one of the UK’s leading stockists and converters of polyurethane foam materials, which includes a range of Reticulated Polyurethane Foams. 20ppi Reticulated Polyurethane foam is sometimes also referred to as ‘Filter foam’ or Skeletal Foam due to its open cellular structure. Reticulated Foam are recognisable by their net or mesh like appearance - especially those between 10ppi and 30ppi. The holes formed in these foams vary in size and are referred to as ‘pores’, the material grade is defined by the number and size of of these pores hence the term PPI (pores per inch) - these cell or pore sizes range from 10PPI which is a very coarse grade up to 100PPI which has a more compact structure.
20PPI retic foams in its raw material form are manufactured in large blocks or ‘buns’ which are held in stock ready to be split down into sheets or split and joined into continuous lengths or rolls of material. Our in-house conversion facilities enable us to produce and supply 20PPI retic foam products starting from as little as 5mm thick, not just in sheet or roll form, but also as finished cut products such as gaskets, washers, pads and strips all of which can be supplied in a plain finish, coated with one of our many foils or self -adhesives or in even laminated to other materials to create composites.

What is 20PPI Reticulated Polyurethane Foam?
‘Retciculated’ is used as a reference to this type of PU foam as the word itself means ‘net-like’, which is exactly how 20PPI reticulated foam is described. 20PPI retic foam has a coarse feel and a very open cell appearance created using a blowing method to create bubbles producing a material with homogenous and uniform cells. 20ppi has a low number and large sized pores making up its structure making it a quick drying foam which acts like a sieve allowing air and liquids to freely pass through whilst trapping larger particles. 20PPI Retic foam is light weight with completely open cells, with skeletal mesh like structure ideal for trapping dust and particles.
Why use 20PPI Reticulated Polyurethane Foam?
20PPI Reticulated PU Foams are more efficient than paper or cotton filters and liners with excellent water resistance, ideal for use within both air and moisture filtration. This coarse grade of foam has a high surface area and porosity making it an excellent choice for use within speakers, air conditioning units, as components within vacuum cleaners or fuel tanks and as scrubbing pads.
Although the 20PPI is a very open cell material, it can be easily compressed which can help reduce the amount of air and liquid passing through the product and also increase the amount of dust and debris it catches.. .

Advantages of Using 20PPI Reticulated Polyurethane Foam
There are countless reasons for using Reticulated Foams - with 20ppi offering versatility, open-cell and light weight structure, low odor and highly resistant to mold and mildew. This high quality material is made using polyurethane foam available with a flame retardant additive to conform to FMVSS302 standards, combining excellent chemical and fuel resistance, good elongation and tear strength properties making it suitable for a number of industries and applications. Due to the cellular nature of 20PPI Retic foam, when compressed the material, gains a new range of properties, altering its breathability, porosity, the rate at which liquids and air can pass through and also the amount of waste, dust and debris that is caught. 20ppi has a a net like structure which acts as a sieve, therefore unlike other grades of PU foam, it will not absorb water and will dry quickly making it last long, reusable and suitable for wet applications such as boat seating and aquarium filtration (marine safe only). Reticulated foams are available in two types, Polyether and more readily available from ASG - Polyester. This Polyester reticulated foam can also be manufactured as an FR grade using a flame retardant additive to confirm to FMVSS302 standards - this makes the material ideal for use in a range of demanding applications and environments.
Reticulated Pu foams are not only available in different densities, pore sizes and colours - it can also be manufactured in most shapes and profiles including die-cut parts, egg-box profiles and even glued or welded tubes and cylinders. Reticulated filter foams are foams are resistant to mild acids and alkali's, salt water, fuel, organic chemicals, oils, lubricants, soaps and detergents therefore applications which often which utilize 20ppI Reticulated foam components include filtration for liquids and air such as within small lawnmower engines and vacuum cleaners, sound absorption where it doesn't need to necessarily block noise, but absorb and manage the actual sound waves for example with aircrafts, industrial equipment and household appliances, fluid management in cosmetic and medical applications and as a cleaning product for scrubbing and wiping.
