Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Medium Grade)

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we offer a vast catalogue of sheet materials, including medium grade neoprene sponge, also sometimes referred to as neoprene foam, neoprene sheet or neoprene sponge rubber sheet or medium density neoprene sponge.

Our medium density neoprene sponge (medium grade neoprene sponge) is manufactured and stocked in block form, which we can split down into sheets or join blocks together and then split them to produce continuous lengths or rolls of material in thicknesses starting at just 1mm.

Our onsite laminating service not only allows us to laminate layers of medium grade neoprene sponge to create greater depths but also enables us to supply neoprene sponge products with a choice of self-adhesives, foils and even layers of other materials. Medium grade neoprene sponge can be supplied as complete rolls and sheets of material, or further converted into a range of cut or fabricated parts such as gaskets, pads, strips and washers.

What is Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Medium Grade)?

Medium grade neoprene sponge rubber (also referred to as Polychloroprene) is just one of many closed-cell materials on offer from Advanced Seals & Gaskets vast catalogue which is used for sealing against dust, air and moisture, gap-filling between uneven surfaces or for reducing unwanted noise and vibration in applications where there is exposure to chemicals, oil and petrol.

This material is very versatile and used to manufacture a number of our products, including sheets, gaskets, washers and pads.  Medium grade neoprene sponge rubber is one of ASG’s stock materials, held in the block, sheet and roll form in a range of thicknesses ensuring products can be supplied within a minimum timeframe.

Why use Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Medium Grade)?

Medium grade neoprene sponge rubber has a number of desirable properties making it a popular choice for use as a sealing, gasketing and insulating material.  Its closed-cell structure creates an air, dust and watertight seal, with both sound and vibration insulating properties.

Neoprene sponge has great longevity compared to other materials thanks to its excellent ageing properties, being resilient to ozone, sunlight, oxidation and UV exposure.  Medium grade neoprene sponge rubber is resistant to petrol, oil, chemically inert and flame retardant, therefore found used within many building & construction, glazing, sealing, electronic and automotive applications.

Benefits of Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Medium Grade)

    • Readily available from stock
    • Durable
    • Oil, petrol, chemical, UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Medium grade neoprene sponge rubber is flame retardant
    • Medium grade neoprene sponge rubber is sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

The Advantages of Using Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Medium Density)

There are various ways in which our customers utilize acoustic foam gaskets, these include sound absorption. Due to its excellent sound dampening properties, acoustic foam gaskets are often used for fittings within marine applications, recording studios, acoustic/compressor or generator enclosures, etc.

Many industries also utilize acoustic foam gaskets for insulation, vibration control and cushioning due to the materials exceptional fire resistance properties (Surface Spread of Flame Class 1 BS 476 part 7 and Building Regulations 1991 (fire safety) Class 0 BS 476 part 6&7).

These include heating & ventilation, construction, automotive, and electrical equipment and appliance manufacturing.

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a number of material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from a choice of grades when using neoprene sponge sheets.  Neoprene sponge sheets can be supplied not only in our medium density Neoprene but also in a Flame Retardant, Firm grade and EPDM/Neoprene Blended grade.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge sheets are closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and have a density of 180kg (+/- 25), this means they are suitable for use in more heavy-duty applications, where less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

Flame Retardant Neoprene sheets are grey in colour, can handle continuous temperatures from -40°C to 115°C and are subject to more vigorous fire testing ( FMVSS 302, UL94, AFNOR P9750), this makes the material ideal for use within construction and transport applications where a flame-resistant barrier may be required.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene, making it the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
