Pick And Pluck Polyurethane Foam

One of the most diverse ranges of materials converted by ASG are Polyurethane materials which are manufactured in many types and grades, each suited for use in a range of different applications and industries.

One such type Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd can offer is Pick & Pluck polyurethane foam, recognised by its pre-scored surface. Pick & Pluck packaging foam is available in several different thicknesses usually at 12mm, 25mm and 50mm and often supplied in multiple layer packs.

Pick & Pluck Polyurethane foam can be supplied in large sheets, but are generally in pre-cut smaller pads to fit inside cases and boxes as inserts. Pick & Pluck Polyurethane foam pads can be cut down to bespoke sizes to order as all conversion is carried out onsite using our specialist in-house cutting machines, where they can also be laminated to other materials to produce composite sheets, or covered with one of our many foils or self-adhesives.

What Is Pick And Pluck Polyurethane Foam?

Pick & Pluck foam is one of the softer grades of Polyurethane available, usually Polyether which is perfect for use as packaging, storing and transporting delicate and valuable items safely. Pick & Pluck foams can also be used for transporting electronics as ESD (electro static discharge) safe grades of this foam are also available.

Pick & Pluck Polyurethane foam is the same polyether material as the standard foam slabs and convoluted PU foam, but are manufactured and supplied with a pre-scored cubes which can be easily picked out to create a secure and protective space for your items to be held in.

Why Use Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam?

Pick & Pluck polyurethane foam is often a go to for the production of packaging case inserts for a number of reasons.

Firstly the softness of the material provides cushioning, shock absorption and protection. The design of the foam itself with its pre-scored surface and multiple layer stacking system also allows for very obscure shaped items to be fully secured such as cameras and camera parts.

Pick and Pluck foam is available in a choice of thickness and also with a choice of pluckable square sizes from 1cm to 1 inch, each allowing users to get the best fit for their valuables without the added cost of having to have the holes or spaces cut out using tools or routering machines.

Supplying pick and pluck foams as a set (lid, base and pick & pluck layer)ensures the perfect sandwiching products between the sheets of foam ensuring the safe storage and transport of fragile or valuable items.

Advantages Of Using Pick & Pluck Polyurethane Foam

Our multi-layer pick & pluck polyurethane sets are designed and manufactured to make packaging as easy as possible, providing a base, ‘lid’ which can be a plain PU foam slab or in the eggbox (convoluted) form and finally the middle layer which has the pluckable cubes, which can not only be picked horizontally, but also vertically which prevents all round movement.

Pick & Pluck foams are a cheaper alternative to pre-cut case inserts as there are no tooling or labour costs - users can simply measure around their equipment or items and pick out the cubes accordingly to fit. Pick & Pluck Polyurethane foams can be manufactured in a choice of thicknesses and supplied in different layered sets (depending on the size of the product being packed).

The material itself is manufactured in master blocks or buns, which are split down to thicknessed and scored before being cut down into pre-cut pads to fit inside your case.

Benefits Of Using Pick & Pluck Polyurethane Foam

    • Cheaper alternative to bespoke cut packaging inserts
    • Reduces damage in transit, therefore saving money
    • Protects from scratches, vibration and impact
    • Available in anti-static and flame retardant grades
      Odourless and non-toxic

Different Types of Packaging Foam Available

Most foams can be used for packaging as they will absorb impact, however certain foams are produced with unique features for transporting or storing items safely. Some of the other more popular packaging foams include:

Polyurethane (PU) slabs - A soft protective open-cell foam used to absorb shock, which will quickly recover following any impact or compression. This type of packaging foam is the same material as the convoluted type, still offering protection from scuffs and dents - but without the peaks.

Polyethylene (PE) - A closed cell foam which is more rigid and higher in density making it great for protecting against vibration and shock, being closed cell its ideal for packing items which need to be protected from moisture.

Pick & Pluck Anti-Static - Polyurethane and Polyethylene foams are available in anti-static or static dissipative grades, which are use for transporting electronic products. These foams not only protect items from physical damage, but also from damage which could be caused by static charge.

Convoluted ‘Eggbox’ packaging Polyurethane - This foam is the same material as the PU slabs and the pick & pluck packaging foams, recognised by its convoluted surface consisting of peaks and troughs and if often supplied in pairs to offer support and cushioning on the top and bottom of the package.
