ABS Plastic Strips
ABS Plastic Strips
Strips of material make up a large proportion of the many products available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets, manufactured in numerous grades, colours, thicknesses and finishes one of which includes ABS plastic or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene.
ABS plastic sheets can be manufactured and supplied in sheets up to 2500mm x 1250mm in size and thicknesses between 1mm and 6mm, from which ABS plastic strips can be cut. Various other non-standard strips with different textures and profiles can also be supplied to order as ABS plastic can also be moulded or vacuumed formed into bespoke shaped strips and are found used across several industry sectors.
By taking customers' drawings and using one of our many on-site saws, presses or CNC machines, we are able to convert ABS plastic sheets into bespoke sized cut strips, all of which can be supplied with a choice of self adhesives or foils.

What Are ABS Plastic Strips?
ABS plastic is made up of three monomers acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, which make up this particular thermoplastic material. A ‘thermoplastic polymer’ is a material which can be melted over and over again, where it is cooled down back to a solid state in it’s new shape or form.
These three monomers create a tough and durable material, which can be produced in different variations by adjusting the amounts each compound added or with the addition of additives such as FDA, Flame Retardant, Scratch resistance and very High Impact resistance grades.
ABS plastic is often cut into a range of strips and seals as they’re lightweight and one of the preferred alternatives to metal due to their durability and resistance to weathering and corrosion. ABS plastic strips are often purchased for use in the same way as a gasket, whereby they are used to create a seal between uneven surfaces and fill irregularities.
Why Use ABS Plastic Strips?
Plastic materials are manufactured to be able to offer different properties for use in different environments. ABS plastic strips demonstrate strength, chemical, thermal stability and resistance to impact and chemical corrosion.
ABS plastic strips can be cut and converted into a range of intricate shapes and products using various techniques including laser cutting, die cutting, sawing and even thermoforming (where the material is heated until it is soft, re-shaped and then left to cool and harden). ABS plastic strips offer a virtually scratch resistant, glossy surfaces, and resistance to chemicals such as some acids and alkalis.
Many components for industrial or household items designed for outdoor use which need to be tough, durable and impact resistant such as automotive strims, architectural struts and within electrical appliances, etc are made using ABS as it is extremely weather resistant, however will deteriorate over time if exposed to UV.
Other Types of Plastic Available
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice of plastic sheeting - our most popular materials being:
- PTFE
- Polycarbonate
- Polypropylene
- HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
- PVC
- Polyester
- Acetal
- Acrylic
- Nylatron
Advantages Of Using ABS Plastic Strips
Using ABS plastic strips offer a whole host of benefits, not only are they cheaper and lighter in weight in comparison to metal and some sponge options, but also offer more resistance to wear and corrosion (will not rust unlike metal).
Despite being a fairly rigid material, ABS plastic strips can still be compressed to create a tight seal between surfaces, as well as being great for insulation applications as it does not conduct heat or electricity.
Other advantages of using ABS plastic strips include the cost of production and purchasing of the material itself, its strong, impact and shock resistant and sturdy, a material which can not only be melted and re-formed several times, but is also easy to recycle.
ABS plastic strips are made more versatile as they can be manufactured in a range of colours and finishes and also cut, pressed or moulded into bespoke shapes and profiles.
Benefits Of Using ABS Plastic Strips
- Weather resistant
- Impact resistant
- Can be melted and re-formed
- Strong and rigid
- Can be easily machined, moulded of vacuumed formed, glued and painted
- Low heat and electricity conductivity for use with electrical insulation
