Foil Acoustic Foam Sheet
Foil Acoustic Foam Sheet
Foil Acoustic: As one of the UK's leading material converters, stockists, and suppliers of non-metallic materials. Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd offers a wide range of products, including foil-faced acoustic polyurethane foam. This specialized material is used to manufacture acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets.
Within our in-house facilities, we process large 2-meter by 1.2-meter polyurethane foam master blocks, customizing them into various thicknesses. starting from a mere 1.5mm. These sheets are further enhanced with a foil covering, creating the acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets that meet precise requirements.
Our state-of-the-art machinery and conversion capabilities enable us to cut these acoustic foam sheets into smaller components such as gaskets, pads, and strips. This flexibility not only helps us maintain competitive pricing but also ensures short lead times for delivering high-quality products.
Additionally, our laminating and adhesive service allows us to provide foil-faced acoustic polyurethane foam rolls. These rolls can be equipped with foil on both faces, along with the option of self-adhesives or lamination with other materials. This comprehensive range of options ensures we meet diverse customer needs.
Why use Acoustic Foam
Class O acoustic foam is a versatile solution widely embraced for its effectiveness in addressing sound, vibration, and thermal insulation requirements across diverse industries such as engineering, construction, automotive, and HVAC.
Primarily, Class O acoustic foam excels in sound reduction by managing sound reverberation, diminishing noise that reflects off walls and flooring. Beyond its sound-absorbing capabilities, this foam material finds numerous applications due to its exceptional performance in fire protection and thermal insulation.
The incorporation of a foil facing amplifies the material's thermal and insulation properties. Aluminum foil, with its reflective and heat-isolating qualities, serves as an additional layer of protection against heat and enhances resistance to vibration and noise. This foil material exhibits impressive durability and is commonly employed in equipment like plant machinery, hydraulic power pack enclosures, internal engine compartments, and compressor housings.
Acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets offer versatility in thickness, typically available in approximately 1.5 mm. They can be supplied with foil on one or both faces, or with foil on one face and self-adhesive on the other. Moreover, these sheets can be laminated to other materials, facilitating the creation of composite materials tailored to specific needs and applications.
What are Acoustic Foam?
Foil-faced polyurethane foam is a composite material consisting of Class 'O' acoustic foam, a lightweight open-cell foam, and layers of aluminum foil. This specialized material serves a range of purposes, including acoustic control, noise and vibration treatment, and thermal insulation.
When employed as sound absorption panels or in flooring applications, acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets work to attenuate sound waves by reducing their amplitude, effectively managing and diminishing noise. Furthermore, the energy captured from the sound waves is dissipated as heat, contributing to a more comfortable environment.
The Class 'O' acoustic foam used in these sheets is flame-retardant, compliant with UL-94 V-0 and BS476 parts 6 & 7 standards. It is non-toxic, free from harmful substances like HCF and CFC, resistant to fungal growth, and dust-free. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, including marine, building and construction, automotive, heating and ventilation, and manufacturing.
In the conversion process, the acoustic foam material is laminated with aluminum foil, which not only adds fire resistance but also enhances durability. Foil-faced acoustic foam can be provided in the form of continuous rolls, typically 10 meters in length as the standard option. Customers have the flexibility to cut these rolls into sheet sizes of their choice or opt for pre-cut acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets, tailoring the product to their specific needs.
The foil backing on these acoustic foam sheets provides heat reflective properties. This can be particularly advantageous in environments where temperature control is a concern. The foil helps to reflect radiant heat, contributing to a more comfortable and energy-efficient space.
The foil facing adds a layer of moisture resistance to the acoustic foam. This makes foil-backed foam sheets suitable for use in areas with higher humidity levels, such as bathrooms or spaces exposed to occasional moisture.
The foil backing adds a layer of protection to the foam, making it more resistant to wear and tear. This can be beneficial in situations where the foam may be subject to physical contact or abrasion.
The smooth surface of the foil backing is easy to clean and maintain. This is an advantage in applications where cleanliness is important, such as in healthcare settings or areas with strict hygiene requirements.
The foil facing can enhance the visual appeal of the acoustic foam. The reflective surface may add a modern and sleek look to the foam, making it a suitable choice for spaces where aesthetics are a consideration.
The foil backing provides a degree of thermal insulation, helping to regulate temperature within a space. This can be especially useful in environments where temperature control is crucial, such as in recording studios or electronic equipment rooms.

Advantages of Using Acoustic Foam
The utilization of foil-faced polyurethane foam presents a multitude of advantages and applications. These foamed materials are readily available in various block sizes and roll thicknesses, always kept in stock for convenient conversion. They not only contribute to enhanced soundproofing but also serve as sound and vibration absorption panels, aiding in sound transmission loss.
These materials and their derivatives can be effectively employed to construct soundproof enclosures, providing shelter for noisy machinery and equipment. Moreover, they find use as linings in automotive and HVAC applications, serving multifaceted purposes.
With both the foil and the Class 'O' foam demonstrating flame retardancy, this material is among the safest choices for soundproofing in building and construction. It excels as soundproof underlay beneath flooring, especially when paired with plasterboard on walls and ceilings, making it ideal for spaces like studios, home cinema rooms, and engine rooms in marine vessels.
The foil component provides resistance to moisture and oils while remaining easy to clean. These materials are lightweight and free of any unpleasant odors, contributing to a pleasant work environment. Additionally, they are recyclable, underlining their eco-friendly characteristics.
Benefits of Using Acoustic Foam
Acoustic foil-faced polyurethane foam sheets are versatile, serving as floor, wall, or ceiling linings for soundproofing enclosures and rooms. They effectively minimize unwanted vibration and noise, further enhanced by their flame-retardant properties. These sheets can also be provided as foil-faced barrier sheets or with a self-adhesive backing on the opposite side.
They can be easily cut into smaller parts like pads, strips, or gaskets to suit specific needs. Available in various thicknesses and weights, these foam sheets remain resistant to mildew and fungal growth, making them a reliable choice for long-term applications.
