Basotect Foam Strip
Basotect Foam Strip
As with many of our foams, Melamine Basoctect is manufactured in block or ‘bun’ form, which are stocked by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd ready for conversion and creating products such as melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips and tapes.
Within the industry, this material may be referred to as Melamine foam, Basotect foam, Melamine Basotect foam or Melamine Polyurethane foam, with finished strips also being called gasket tapes, foam tapes, gasket strip, etc.
Melamine foam master blocks are produced at 2500mm long x 1250mm wide x 500mm thick, which can be cut down or joined to achieve customer desired strip length, then using our state of the art in-house conversion facilities, can be split down to as little as 1.5mm thick sheets or rolls of material prior to being cut into finished melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips. Basotect polyurethane foam strips are all made to order and manufactured using state-of-the-art machinery including band saws, strippers, log cutters and even presses depending upon the size and quantity required - for very small strips in high volume runs, a kiss-cut option may also be available for faster production and time efficiency for the end user.
In-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitively priced melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips. Our on-site laminating service enables us to supply Basotect Melamine PU foam strips in a choice of finishes including plain or coated on one of both faces with a range of self-adhesives, foils or even laminated to other materials.

What Are Melamine Foam Basotect Polyurethane Foam Strips?
Some of the melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips produced by ASG are produced using Melamine or "Basotect" foam, a low density, open-cell PU foam, formulated from melamine resin (a duroplastic synthetic material), creating a lightweight, flexible and very soft material, available in a range of colours ranging from very dark grey, to white each suited to different applications.
Melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips are pieces of material cut to a specific width and length as requested by our customers, in some cases available as longer lengths of around 10 meters or more in continuous rolls or ‘coils’ which can be cut down to the required length by the end user as when needed by the end user, often used in a similar way to a gasket placed between two surfaces to create a seal, provide cushioning or insulation.
Strips of Basotect PU Foam are made splitting blocks down into sheets or by joining blocks of material together to produce a continuous length (required for melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips longer than 2meters long), before it is run through a splitter where it is skived or ‘peeled’ off at a desired thickness, and then cut into basotect polyurethane foam strips either using a press, bandsaw or log-cutter (depending on the length and thicknesses needed).
Why Use Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam Strips?
Melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips are often used in the production of strips or foam tapes for a number of reasons, but mainly its temperature range, where they can be used in applications reaching up to 240°, they’re naturally flame resistant even without additional additives and extremely lightweight.
Melamine foam strips are most commonly found used within building & construction, transport (marine, aerospace, automotive and rail) and HVAC industries. Melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips can be used to fill gaps and irregularities between uneven surfaces, provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against air, gas and dust.
Benefits Of Using Melamine Basotect PU Foam
- Open cell structure allowing for water absorption
- Abrasive properties
- Flame and heat resistance
- High sound and thermal insulation properties
- Basotect polyurethane foam strips are lightweight
- Can be cut into small melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips or continuous coils
The Advantages of Using Melamine Basotect Foam Strips
Some of the most desirable attributes of melamine basotect polyurethane foam strips are the materials durability, heat and flame resistance (remaining stable even at 240⁰C), impact absorption, vibration dampening and is very light weight which makes the components ideal for fitting to walls and ceilings within buildings and also within on trains and aerocraft.
Due to its heat and flammability properties, its a popular material for use as gasket tapes within HVAC applications, used within filters, pipers and ductwork to seal, cushion and insulate. Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam is manufactured as standard in a block size of 2500mm long x 1250mm wide x 500mm thick, which can be split down and cut to produce strips, tapes and coils or foam in various lengths and finishes.
As all these strips are manufactured in-house we can make bespoke basotect polyurethane foam strips ranging from just a few centimeters, through to 15 or even 50 meters long - supplied in a plain or self adhesive option - available in several shades of grey and white to be physically more attractive when placed in position.
Other Grades of Open Cell PU Foams Available:
Polyester - this type of material has an open cell structure suited for use as filtration media for sound - ideal for speaker panels.
Polyether is made up of large open cells which allow for airflow without retaining moisture, making it perfect for use as filtration foams, aquarium foams and marine equipment.
Class O Acoustic is found used in many acoustic and thermal insulation applications within building and construction industries. It can also be used in heating and ventilation applications where a fire rated material is essential.
Reticulated Foam - Recognised by its fully open cellular structure and appearance, which is ideal for air and liquid filtration, even when used with mild acids and alkalis, fuel, organic chemicals, oils, lubricants and detergents. Available in 10ppi 20ppi 30ppi 45ppi 60ppi 80ppi (pores per inch).
