EggBox Foam Sheets
Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets
Packaging polyurethane foam sheets are produced in a variety of types and grades, each suited for specific applications across multiple industries. One of ASG’s key offerings is convoluted packaging polyurethane foam, commonly known as egg box foam or egg crate foam, recognised for its distinctive peaks and troughs on the surface.
These convoluted foam sheets are available in multiple thicknesses (measured from the base to the tip of the peak) and are typically supplied in pairs, especially for packaging applications. Standard thicknesses range from 25mm to 50mm, but bespoke sizes can be made on request, as sheets are split from master blocks.
Egg box packaging foam can be supplied in large sheets up to 2300mm × 2000mm, which can then be cut into smaller pads or custom case inserts. Our in-house conversion facilities allow for lamination with other materials to create composite sheets or covering with foils or self-adhesive layers for added functionality.
What Are Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets?
Convoluted packaging PU foam sheets are one of the softer grades of polyurethane, with a density around 25kg/m³, making them ideal for packaging, storage, and transport of delicate or valuable items.
These sheets are also suitable for ESD-sensitive applications, protecting electronics from electrostatic discharge with anti-static grades.
Why USE Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets?
The primary advantage of convoluted foam lies in its unique peak-and-trough design. This surface ensures that items are held firmly in place, while sandwiching products between two sheets provides extra protection during storage or transit.
Convoluted polyurethane foam is split from master blocks and is available in multiple thicknesses, making it adaptable for irregularly shaped items.
Benefits of Using Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam
- Cost-effective alternative to bespoke cut packaging inserts
- Reduces damage in transit, saving money on replacements
- Protects from scratches, vibration, and impact
- Available in anti-static and flame-retardant grades
- Odourless and non-toxic
Additional benefits include:
- Sound absorption for acoustic protection
- Noise reduction in sensitive environments
- Cost-effective acoustic treatment
- Easy installation, as sheets can be cut to size and affixed using adhesives
Eggbox foam is designed to absorb sound waves and reduce reverberation. The convoluted surface helps trap and disperse sound energy, making it an effective material for improving acoustics in various environments, such as recording studios, home theaters, and bedrooms.
By absorbing and diffusing sound, eggbox foam sheets contribute to reducing overall noise levels in a space. This is particularly beneficial in areas where unwanted echoes or background noise need to be minimized.
Eggbox foam is often more affordable than other acoustic treatment materials, making it a cost-effective solution for individuals and businesses looking to enhance sound quality without a significant budget.
Eggbox foam sheets are lightweight and easy to install. They can be easily cut to size and attached to walls or ceilings using adhesive, making them a convenient option for both permanent and temporary acoustic treatment.
Eggbox foam is highly versatile and used in:
- Recording studios
- Podcasting spaces
- Home theatres and bedrooms
- Industrial environments to dampen machinery noise
Sheets can be cut or shaped to fit specific spaces and acoustic challenges, allowing for a tailored solution for any environment.

Different Types of Packaging Foam Available
Most foams absorb impact, but some are designed with unique properties for safer transport and storage. Popular alternatives include:
- Polyurethane (PU) slabs – soft, open-cell foam for shock absorption, quick recovery, and protection from scuffs or dents without peaks.
- Polyethylene (PE) – closed-cell foam, denser and more rigid, ideal for vibration protection and moisture-sensitive items.
- Anti-Static Foams – available in PU or PE, used for transporting electronics, protecting against physical and static damage.
- Pick & Pluck Polyurethane – pre-scored layers for removable cubes, allowing for customised shapes of items being transported.
Advantages Of Using Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets
Convoluted PU foam sheets offer excellent protection due to their soft, convoluted surface, which cushions items and prevents damage from scratches or impacts.
- Split from master blocks, they are available in multiple thicknesses and grades, including anti-static. and flame-retardant
- Supplied in standard sheets up to 2300mm × 2000mm, which can be cut down into pads or profiles for lining boxes or cases
- Sold in pairs to securely sandwich fragile items, providing cushioning, abrasion resistance, and impact protection
Typical applications include:
- Tools and equipment
- Medical instruments
- High-end cameras or lighting
Egg box foam sheets are easy to cut with scissors, knives, or press tools. They can be coated with self-adhesive layers where required, offering maximum flexibility for packaging and acoustic purposes.
