One of Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd’s most popular materials is EPDM, which we convert into a variety of products, including EPDM foam washers (also known as EPDM sponge washers). These washers are widely used across industries for sealing, cushioning, vibration reduction, and noise insulation.

Using customer-provided samples, drawings, or dimensions, our team manufactures washers in almost any size and quantity. For standard items, specialised presses are used, while larger or thicker washers are produced with CNC/oscillating knife machinery. Washers can be supplied with a plain or self-adhesive finish and delivered as loose cut parts or kiss-cut sheets/rolls, offering time-efficient solutions for assembly line or production use.

EPDM foam blocks are typically around 50mm thick, allowing washers to be produced from as thin as 1mm to greater than 50mm using laminated layers. Manufacturing in-house enables us to maintain high-quality standards while keeping lead times low.

What Are EPDM Foam Washers?

Washers are flat rings made from materials such as rubber, foam, or metal, placed between two surfaces to act as spacers, seals, or to distribute pressure between nuts and bolts. EPDM foam washers are made from EPDM (Ethylene, Propylene, Diene, Monomer) foam, a closed-cell material known for its flexibility, durability, and excellent resistance to environmental factors.

EPDM washers are commonly used as seals for air and water applications, as well as in machinery, vehicles, and electrical equipment to reduce noise, vibration, and wear.

    Washers

    EPDM foam washers can serve as gap fillers, dust seals, cushions, or spacers. Advanced Seals & Gaskets manufactures washers from a wide range of materials, including neoprene, silicone, solid rubber, sponge, plastics, polyethylene, PVC, polyester, cork, textiles, and more. Specialist presses and kiss-cut machinery ensure precision and consistency across all products.

    Why Use EPDM Foam Washers?

    EPDM foam washers are made from closed-cell foam, which prevents the passage of air, liquids, and gases. The nitrogen-filled cells provide excellent compression recovery and strong resilience under load. EPDM is highly resistant to ozone, UV exposure, weathering, and abrasion.

    EPDM foam washers are flammability tested to FMVSS302 and UL94 HBF standards, making them suitable for demanding applications. Typical uses include automotive interiors, electronics, lighting, and ventilation systems.

    Different Grades

    Advanced Seals & Gaskets can supply EPDM washers in a variety of grades to suit different requirements:

    High Temperature EPDM Foam: Closed-cell, flexible even at low temperatures, with a working range of -50°C to +128°C. Excellent thermal and mechanical properties make it ideal for HVAC, refrigeration, pipelines, automotive, white goods, and building applications.

    Semi Open Cell EPDM: Combines flexibility with sealing capabilities. The material allows air, dust, and moisture ingress until compressed to 80% of its thickness, after which it behaves as a closed-cell product.

    Firm Grade EPDM: Designed for higher resilience under load, with increased tear strength. Suitable for automotive, white goods, marine, defence, and construction applications.

    EPDM foam washers are primarily black, with medium-density grades available in white.

    Advantages of Using EPDM Foam Washers

    EPDM foam washers are made from durable synthetic materials. Closed-cell EPDM is ideal for sealing applications requiring minimal compression, excellent outdoor lifespan, and a dust- and fibre-free surface.

    Washers can be manufactured in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses, with optional coverings or self-adhesive backing on one or both faces. For thicker washers or added functionality, EPDM foam washers can be laminated to other materials for more specialised applications.
