EPDM Foam Strips
At Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, EPDM sponge strips are one of our most popular and versatile products. Sometimes referred to as EPDM foam strips, gasket strips, foam tape, glazing strips, gasket tape, or weather strips, these components are essential for sealing, vibration reduction, and surface protection.
As EPDM sponge is a core stock material, we can produce custom-made strips with minimal lead times. Our skilled workforce uses state-of-the-art machinery to split sheets and rolls from blocks and convert them into strips tailored to your requirements.
Using your samples, drawings, or specified dimensions, we can produce made-to-measure EPDM sponge strips using bandsaws, strippers, log cutters, and presses, depending on the size and quantity required. In-house production ensures consistent quality, competitive pricing, and quick turnaround.
Strips can be cut from as thin as 1mm up to 50mm thick, with widths starting at 4mm and lengths ranging from a few millimetres to 50 meters. We also offer lamination for greater depth, plain strips, or versions with self-adhesive foils or laminated with other materials for specialist applications.
What are EPDM Sponge Strips?
EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, a synthetic rubber compound known for strength, flexibility, and closed-cell structure. This makes it ideal for internal and external sealing applications, where minimal compression is required for effective performance.
EPDM sponge strips can be supplied as cut lengths or continuous rolls, functioning in a similar way to gaskets. They are commonly used to:
- Seal gaps between uneven surfaces
- Fill irregularities
- Reduce vibration and noise.
- Provide acoustic insulation
- Protect components from air, gas, dust, and moisture.
Because EPDM is a closed-cell material, nitrogen-filled cells prevent the passage of air, liquids, and gases. This gives the strips excellent compression set and recovery characteristics, ensuring long-term durability and reliable performance.

Why use EPDM Sponge Strips?
EPDM sponge strips are highly effective for sealing, cushioning, and gap-filling applications. They help prevent unwanted rattles, vibrations, and friction, while also sealing against air, gas, dust, and liquids.
The closed-cell structure ensures the strips maintain airtight and watertight seals, even under minimal compression. Their nitrogen-filled cells contribute to excellent compression recovery and long-term reliability.
These strips are widely used across multiple industries, including:
- Construction and glazing
- Automotive interiors
- Electronics and lighting systems
- Ventilation and door seals
The Benefits of Using EPDM Sponge Strips
- Reduces noise, vibration, and shock
- Flexible with excellent compression recovery
- Cost-effective and readily available
- Closed-cell structure prevents bacteria and mould growth.
- Naturally compressible to create airtight and watertight seals
- Suitable for conversion into gaskets and compatible with most adhesives
The Advantages of Using EPDM Sponge Strips
EPDM sponge strips are made from a strong, synthetic, closed-cell material, making them ideal for both internal and external sealing applications. They offer a long lifespan, remain dust and fibre-free, and are suitable for outdoor use.
Strips can be produced in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses, with options for foil or self-adhesive finishes. They can be laminated to create specialist layers for more demanding applications.
EPDM sponge is air- and water-tight, UV-resistant, and performs well in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +85°C. It is also:
- Flammability-tested to FMVSS 302 and UL94 HBF standards
- Resistant to ketones, diluted acids, and alkalis
- Excellent for electrical insulation
- Abrasion-resistant, weatherproof, and ozone-resistant
Grades of EPDM Sponge Strips Available
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd stocks a variety of EPDM grades and densities, suitable for specific applications:
- High Temperature EPDM Foam: Closed-cell, flexible, temperature range -50°C to +128°C, ideal for HVAC, refrigeration, pipelines, automotive, white goods, and construction.
- Semi-Open Cell EPDM: Combines flexibility with closed-cell sealing once compressed 80%, allowing controlled air, dust, and moisture ingress before sealing.
- Firm Grade EPDM Foam: High tear strength, more resilient, suitable for automotive, white goods, marine, defence, and construction applications.
