Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Pads
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd manufacture washers using a selection of materials sourced from across the world. Our extensive site not only houses state of the art machinery for conversion and laminating, but also storage facilities enabling us to hold stocks of polyethylene in block ‘bun’, roll and sheet form, in a range of densities and grades including Flame Retardant Polyethylene, used to manufacture our flame retardant polyethylene foam pads.
Other names used to describe this material are Flame Retardant block foam, FR- PE foam, flame retardant polyethylene sponge or LDPE-FR (low density Polyethylene) foam. Blocks of Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam can be quickly and accurately split down to thicknesses starting from as little as 1.5mm, in 2 metre x 1 metre sized sheets, or rolls which are made by joining blocks of material together prior to splitting them, both of which can be used to further convert into cut flame retardant polyethylene foam pads.
Our flame retardant polyethylene foam pads are produced on-site using drawings or measurements provided by our customers, with whom we work closely to ensure the final product is to their exact specification. Depending upon the size and quantity of foam pads required, one of many presses, bandsaws or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one off samples to multiple batch runs, which can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast paced assembly lines.

What Are Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Pads?
Foam pads, including those made from Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam (flame retardant polyethylene foam pads), can be cut from rolls or sheets of material and are often used in the same way as a gasket, whereby they are used to create a seal between uneven surfaces, fill irregularities and provide cushioning.
Our flame retardant polyethylene foam pads can be produced as squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval shaped pads or ‘discs’, in a range of thicknesses. Manufacturing pads in-house even means we can supply them in a plain or self adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.
The Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam used in the production of these foam pads is a chemically cross-linked foam, part of the Thermoplastic foam family, which has small, uniform, closed-cell structure, creating a high quality, lightweight material, it is a great material with a number of resistances and insulation properties as well as being available in a variety of densities and colours. Densities in which flame retardant polyethylene foams are produced include 25kg, 30kg, 45kg, 60kg and 100kg.
Why Use Polyethylene Foam Pads?
Flame Retardant Polyethylene foams (used to manucature a wide range of products including flame retardant polyethylene foam pads) are popular for the production of components such as washers as the material even in a standard grade as an extensive list of excellent properties including - a low compression set, are resistant to water, oils, chemicals and weather, with additives added to produce other grades and thus additional properties, in this case Flame Retardancy.
The flame retardant additive mixed during the compounding process, causes the material to burn slower or even self-extinguish when exposed to open flames, therefore reducing or slowing down the spread of the fire. Being made from a closed cell material, these washers have a good tear resistance, making them easy to accurately cut and fit into situe using even the most vigorous processes. As well as the flame retardant properties, these flame retardant polyethylene foam pads exhibit other characteristics including having a closed cell, smooth surface which doesn’t support mold or fungus growth, resistance to Ozone/UV and a working temperature range of -60°C - +90°C.
The material used also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control and can be used for thermal insulation. Flame retardant polyethylene foam pads can be used to fill gaps and irregularities between uneven surfaces, provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against air, gas, dust and liquids, and can also be used to cushion between moving parts to reduce friction and damage to components and equipment.
Advantages Of Using Polyethylene Foam Pads
Foam pads can be cut from polyethylene using one of its many grades, giving customers the benefit of having a number of advantages and a choice of properties allowing the material to be utilised in numerous industries and applications from dust seals and flame retardant gaskets to theatre and production props.
Flame retardant polyethylene foam pads is a man-made material, with a tight, uniform closed cell structure which can be used in sealing applications against liquid, gases and particles, it also demonstrates a high resistance to wear, tear, Ozone and UV exposure, resilience to repeated impact and a working temperature range of -60°C to +90°C.
It also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control, for shock absorption and can be used for thermal insulation, with the addition the Flame Retardant additives in the compounding also giving these washers self-extinguishing and slower burn rate properties, meaning they are excellent for use where there is a risk of fire, as they will help reduce the spread of flames.
Polyethylene foam pads are aesthetically pleasing, with a nice texture which is easy to fabricate, laminate and cut into parts using a range of techniques and processes for use within the theatrics, building and construction, HVAC, automotive, packaging and sports industries.
