HIP Strip
Cut strips make up a large percentage of products available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets includes various types of plastics, available in numerous grades, colours, thicknesses, finishes and sheet sizes, one of which includes HIP plastics (which are used to manufacture HIP plastic strips) or High Impact Polystyrene.
HIP plastics can be supplied in a range of sheet sizes up to 1980 x 1372 and thicknesses from between 0.5mm and 6mm from which strips can be cut. Other non-standard strips with different textures and profiles can also be supplied to order as HIP plastic can also be moulded or vacuumed formed into bespoke shapes and are found used across several industry sectors. Using customers' drawings or dimensions, one of our many on-site saws, presses or CNC machines, we are able to convert HIP plastic sheets into cut strips which can be supplied with a choice of self adhesives or foils.

What Are HIP Plastic Strips?
High Impact Polystyrene or HIP plastics are sometimes also referred to as ‘Polystyrene or PS’, its one of many types of Thermoplastics (a polymer which can be melted repeatedly and re-formed), which is produced using tough polystyrene resins.
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is a relatively inexpensive, lightweight and customisable material which can be cut, punched, thermoformed, glued, painted or printed on, available in grades such as FDA, flame retardant and conductive to name a few. HIP plastics are often cut into a range of strips as they’re lightweight and one of the preferred alternatives to metal due to their durability and resistance to weathering and corrosion. HIP plastic strips are often purchased for use in the same way as a gasket, whereby they are used to create a seal between uneven surfaces and fill irregularities or to act as insulation such as electrical barriers.
Why Use HIP Plastic Strips?
Plastics are available in a huge number of grades each offering different properties for use in different environments. HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) plastic is a general purpose grade, which offers ease of processing, high impact strength, and stiffness often used for low strength structural applications when impact resistance and machinability at a low cost are required.
HIP Plastics strips are easy to cut, fabricate, paint and glue and are available in a range of colours, grades and finishes making them not only perfect for the production of samples and prototypes, but also applications involving food processing and packaging.
HIP plastic strips can be cut and converted into a range of intricate sizes using various techniques including laser cutting, die cutting, sawing and even thermoforming (where the material is heated until it is soft, re-shaped and then left to cool and harden).
Advantages Of Using HIP Plastic Strips
Using HIP plastic strips brings a number of advantages to its users, the material itself is strong and impact resistant which can be easily converted by way of sawing, punching, routering and moulding, all whilst being a cost effective material.
HIP plastic strips are highly versatile as not only can they be fabricated to form a number of bespoke products, but the material is also manufactured in a range of colours, grades and finishes for use in various applications ranging from point of sale displays, toys and even in very demanding industries such as medical and food production or packaging where stringent health & safety standards must be met.
HIP Plastic strips have a continuous working temperature of 60°C to 80° C, a melting temp: 180-270°C and resistances to Dilute Acids, Dilute Alkalis, Oils and Greases and Aliphatic Hydrocarbons. Strips cut and fabricated using HIP plastic will hold together well with glue and have a paintable/printable surface which means the number of uses for this material are endless.
