What Are Mylar Pads?
Mylar pads are thin, precision-cut insulation sheets designed for electrical and electronic applications. The material is typically measured in microns, ranging from 12 to 500 microns, and supplied in rolls 914mm wide and lengths between 25 and 200 meters, depending on thickness. These rolls can be cut into custom pads to suit specific dimensions or shapes, including:
- Squares or rectangles (with optional radius corners)
- Circles or discs
- Ovals
Pads can be supplied plain or self-adhesive, offering flexibility for easy installation. Mylar is a white, heat-resistant polyester film with excellent dielectric strength, chemical resistance (excluding alcohol), and remains non-brittle over time.
These pads act as barriers or gap fillers, preventing electrical currents from passing through while supporting conductors, ensuring effective and safe electrical insulation.
Why Choose Mylar Pads?
Mylar insulation pads are ideal for applications requiring strength, flexibility, and high thermal stability. They are commonly used across:
- Electronics and electrical components
- Cable insulation
- Heating elements
- Solar panels and motors
- Aerospace components
- Printing, packaging, and magnetic media applications
Their low moisture absorption, high tensile strength, and thermal resistance (-70°C to +150°C) make them suitable for demanding indoor and outdoor environments.
The material’s versatility allows it to be supplied in pre-cut pads, rolls, or sheets, giving customers complete control to customise components according to exact specifications.
Benefits of Using Mylar Pads
- Multipurpose durable PET plastic film
- Excellent chemical and water resistance (except alcohol)
- Wide temperature range: -70°C to +150°C
- Impact and tear-resistant
- Electrically insulating
- Available in 23–500 micron thicknesses
Other Electrical Insulation Materials Available
ASG works with leading manufacturers to offer additional electrical insulation materials:
