Neoprene Foam Washers

Neoprene Foam Washers

Neoprene Foam Washers

Neoprene Sponge Washers are manufactured using high-quality material and state of the art machinery.  All our washers are made to order and are based on dimensions, samples or drawings to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application - and we can offer a small sample run in the first instance.

Depending on the washer size and quantity, our production team will select from our range of atoms, autos, travelling head, kiss cut pressing machines or for very large or thick washers, we can programme our CNC (oscillating knife)  to produce the washers with a minimal lead time.

As we split and laminate our products in house, we can offer neoprene sponge washers in thicknesses starting at just 1mm, very thick washers can also be produced by laminating layers of material together, all of which can be supplied with a plain or self-adhesive finish.

What is a Neoprene Sponge Washer?

Neoprene or Polychloroprene sponge is just one of many leading materials that we use to manufacture our products, working with leading materials suppliers to ensure we have the highest quality and grade possible.

A neoprene sponge washer is a flat ring cut from a sheet or block of material which is placed between two surfaces creating a level surface, acting as a spacer or a seal, or it is placed between a nut/bolt to spread the pressure when tightened.

Neoprene sponge has a closed-cell structure but can still be compressed between two surfaces to create air, dust and watertight seal or placed with machinery, electrical appliances and vehicles to reduce unwanted excess noise and vibration.

All of our products are bespoke and made to your requirements, so we can tailor the sponge washer based on the application and usage.

    Why use Neoprene Sponge Washers?

Neoprene sponge washers possess a number of desirable properties making them a popular choice across many industries.

Its closed-cell structure creates an air, dust and water tight seal, with great longevity compared to other materials thanks to its excellent ageing properties, being resilient to ozone, sunlight, oxidation and UV exposure.

Neoprene sponge washers are resistant to oil, chemically inert, flame retardant and have a wide working temperature range of -40°C to +115°C, and so they can be found within many outdoor, building and construction, glazing, electronic and automotive applications. They are durable and flame retardant, making them an obvious choice for more hazardous and high intensity applications and locations.

    Why Use a Washer?

Washers can be used as a gap filler, a sea against dust, air or water, a cushion or spacer.  We manufacture washers using an extensive range of materials including neoprene, silicone, solid rubber, sponge, plastics, polyethylene, PVC, Polyester, cork, textiles and many more, using specialist presses and CNC machinery.

We manufacture our washers on site to your own specifications, with a range of commonly used washers also available.

    Benefits of Neoprene Sponge Washer

    • Oil & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

The Advantages of Using Neoprene Sponge Washer

Neoprene sponge washers have many advantages, the material itself is long-lasting within indoor or outdoor applications and does not go brittle over time. This material is created for even the highest and lowest temperatures with a wide operating temperature range which makes it particularly popular in heat-sensitive settings.

Neoprene sponge is one of ASG’s primary stock materials and therefore readily available in block form meaning washers can be turned around and delivered quickly as we manufacture on site. Neoprene sponge is easy to cut using a range of methods and will hold any of our self-adhesives and foils well, we also have the ability to offer self-adhesive as part of the washer, for easy application.

Under minimal compression, neoprene sponge washers provide excellent dust,  air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil. Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene washers are suitable for use within many marines, automotive, glazing, electronic, lighting, ventilation, building and construction applications.

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals and Gaskets work with a range of material manufacturers and suppliers, so we can offer a ride range of grades for our washers.

Neoprene sponge washers can be produced in our medium density, firm, flame retardant and EPDM/Neoprene blended grades.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge washers are closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and have a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications, where less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

Flame Retardant Neoprene washers are grey in colour, can handle continuous temperatures from -40°C to 115°C and subject to more vigorous fire testing ( FMVSS 302, UL94, AFNOR P9750), this makes the material ideal for use within construction and transport applications where a flame-resistant barrier may be required.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene, making it the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your washers or would like samples for your own tests.
