Nitrile Cork Sheet

Nitrile Bonded Cork Sheets

Nitrile Cork Sheet

Advanced Seals & Gaskets offers sheets in a vast range of materials, including Nitrile cork. Nitrile-bonded cork is manufactured in roll form in a range of standard thicknesses, which is then cut down to the required sheet size upon request, usually at 1 m x 1 m or 2 m x 1 m. Our state-of-the-art in-house facilities give us the flexibility to split or laminate nitrile cork sheets, enabling us to offer a full range of non-standard thicknesses.

By combining cork with nitrile rubber, the resulting bonded cork material benefits from enhanced flexibility, strength, and chemical resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

Our onsite laminating service not only allows us to laminate layers of cork but also enables us to supply nitrile cork sheets with a range of self-adhesives, foils, and even layers of other material. Nitrile cork sheets are a resilient material that recovers after compression and withstands stress, giving customers and end users the flexibility to cut their own strips/gaskets/washers as and when required.

Parts produced using nitrile cork sheets can be used for sealing against dust, air, and moisture, gap-filling between uneven surfaces, or for reducing unwanted noise and vibration. They are also preferred in applications that involve exposure to substances such as chemicals, oil, fuels, and hydrocarbons.

What are Nitrile Cork Sheets?

Nitrile cork is made from bonded cork and nitrile rubber granules, resulting in a brown, black-pigmented material with a speckled appearance.  The nitrile imparts properties to the cork, including resistance to oil, fuel, hydrocarbons, and water, as well as a durable, flexible physicality.  This material itself is manufactured in roll form from which sheets can be cut.  Nitrile cork sheets are available in different grades, with each grade designed for specific performance requirements such as sealing, resistance, and durability.

Customers sometimes prefer rolls because they can cut their own sheets to various sizes as and when required.  Nitrile cork sheets can be manufactured with a choice of finishes, including foils, self-adhesive, or laminated with other materials that add further properties, making the sheet applicable for particular industrial or sealing needs.

    Why use Nitrile Cork Sheets

Nitrile cork sheets are utilised in many industries, often for products such as gaskets, pads, and strips. Nitrile-bonded cork material has a range of properties, including anti-vibration, weathering, and resistance to water, oil, and solvents. It is flexible, relatively inexpensive, and suitable for use with fuel and seals at temperatures up to 120°C. In addition to being affordable, nitrile cork's competitive price makes it a cost-effective option for customers seeking value without compromising performance.

As our nitrile sheets are converted in-house, we can cut them to the exact dimensions requested, finish them with a choice of adhesives or foils, and laminate them to any of the other materials in our catalogue, combining properties and creating a unique, robust product. Our Nitrile-bonded cork sheets are popular in the automotive, engineering, construction, industrial, and manufacturing industries.

    Different Grades

Cork sheets can be produced in various grades, including natural cork, bonded cork with neoprene, synthetic bonded cork, and nitrile cork. These multiple grades offer a range of properties and performance options tailored for different applications.

Neoprene-bonded cork is suited to sealing at higher temperatures and is resistant to weathering and oil. Neoprene Bonded cork is suited to oil, engineering, electrical, anti-vibration, and soundproofing applications.

Many synthetic rubbers can be bonded to cork to enhance its properties, creating Synthetic Bonded Cork. This allows the cork to be used in a wide array of water-retaining applications or where resilience to specific acids is required.

Natural cork is relatively inexpensive compared to sponge and rubber, and is often used as an air/dust/water seal and for thermal insulation, acoustic, and anti-vibration applications.

    Typical Applications

Nitrile-bonded cork is a versatile material widely recognised for its exceptional performance in a variety of industries. Its unique blend of natural cork and nitrile rubber delivers oil resistance, anti-vibration properties, and high compressibility, making it a suitable choice for demanding environments. In the automotive industry, nitrile-bonded cork sheet is a popular choice for manufacturing gaskets and seals, where resistance to fuels, oils, and solvents is essential for reliable operation and long-term durability.

Beyond automotive applications, nitrile-bonded cork is widely used in pipe insulation, where its thermal and acoustic insulation properties help protect against temperature fluctuations and reduce noise transmission. Its resilience and ability to conform to uneven surfaces make it ideal for sealing applications that require medium bolt pressure. At the same time, its weathering resistance ensures reliable performance in outdoor and industrial settings.

The key features of nitrile-bonded cork, such as good flexibility, high compressibility, and the ability to withstand a wide temperature range from -20°C to +120°C, make it an excellent gasket material for diverse applications. Customers benefit from the availability of bespoke sizes and the option for self-adhesive backing, which simplifies installation and enhances the material’s versatility. Whether supplied as sheets, strips, or washers, nitrile-bonded cork can be tailored to meet specific requirements, ensuring a precise fit for each application.

For industries seeking tailored solutions, Advanced Seals & Gaskets offers a range of bonded cork grades, including neoprene bonded cork, each with distinct characteristics to suit different operational needs. The material’s compliance with ASTM standards and its availability in various thicknesses further underscore its suitability for a wide array of uses, from sealing and insulation to vibration damping and surface protection.

With competitive prices, reliable stock availability, and prompt dispatch, nitrile-bonded cork sheets offer an added advantage for customers seeking a high-quality, cost-effective solution. The flexibility to request specific grades, sizes, or self-adhesive options ensures that every customer receives a product tailored to their unique requirements. Advantages of Using Acoustic Foam Gaskets

Nitrile-bonded cork is popular across industries such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing, thanks to its range of desirable properties.

Nitrile-bonded cork is used where the material is required to be resistant to the effects of ozone, oils, fuels, and heat or where it is to be used for surface protection, sealing, spacing, and sound/vibration absorption within heavy machinery and mechanical components.

Nitrile-bonded cork can also be found in sumps, valve covers, electrical transformers, electrical switchgear, and to seal general covers and lids.   Nitrile cork sheets are also more desirable to many customers, as they give end-users the flexibility to cut their products (strips/gaskets/washers) as and when required.
