Nylon plastics are a popular material used within the engineering and electrical manufacturing sectors, available in a number of standard sheet sizes from 250mm x 250mm up to 2000mm x 1220, in thicknesses from 1mm to 100mm thick and also in a extruded tubes, from which washers can be cut or pressed. All our washers are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high-spec machinery, using either our CNC oscillating knife or one of our many presses (for very thin washers). Our range of machinery means we can manufacture Nylon washers to match your specified dimensions in any quantity quickly and efficiently, supplied with a choice of self-adhesives or foils, which in return passes on a quality product and a cost saving.

What are Nylon Washers?
A Nylon washer’ is a flat ring of material which is placed between two surfaces or between joints in order to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, creating a level surface for nuts, bolts and other fixings to rest on, improving the fit for fixings and can be used as a water or air tight seal. Nylon washers are produced using either samples, drawings or dimensions provided by customers, which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and Thickness, manufactured in a plain or self-adhesive finish. Nylon washers are a synthetic thermoplastic linear polyamide, most widely available in black or white (natural). Nylon washers are commonly used for engineering applications as components such as washers which can be cut from sheet or tubes to order. Nylon plastic sheets and tubes can be made in extruded and cast grades with the cast variant being stronger, easier to machine and can be made into very thick profiles that exceed the standard 100mm. Nylon plastics can be produced in different grades such as oil filled, metal detectable and flame retardant grades.
Why use Nylon Washers?
Washers made using Nylon washers are used for a number of reasons, they offer a high tensile strength, stiffness and good mechanical properties. Nylon washers provide moderate resistance to chemicals, are electrically insulating and perform well when exposed to heat for prolonged periods, the high melting temperature makes it a great substitute for metals in many high-temperature environments.
Nylon washers are relatively easy to machine using the right tools and can therefore be used in the production of seals, washers and other fittings. As Nylon washers offers outstanding bearing and wear properties, components can often be found used as an alternative to metal fixtures and fittings which are resistant to corrosion, reduce the need for additional lubrication and will reduce the wear on moving parts.

Washers cut from Nylon plastic sheets or tubes are often used to replace metal seals and fittings as they will not corrode through weathering, water or chemical exposures. Nylon washers made from general purpose grade are often utilised for mechanical construction and maintenance due to its optimal combination of mechanical strength, stiffness, toughness, mechanical damping properties and wear resistance together with a good electrical insulating ability and a good chemical resistance.
