EggBox Foam Sheets
EggBox Foam Sheets
Packaging polyurethane foam sheets are produced in many types and grades, each suited for use in a range of different applications and industries. One such type ASG can offer is convoluted packaging polyurethane foam, also known in the industry as egg box foam or egg crate foam, recognised by its convoluted surface consisting of peaks and troughs.
Convoluted packaging foam sheets are available in several different thicknesses (measured from the sheet base to tip of the peak) and usually supplied in pairs, especially when they’re being used for packaging purposes. Convoluted packaging PU foam sheets are usually available in thicknesses from 25mm to 50mm thick, but can be made to order at bespoke sizes as the sheets are split down from master blocks.
Egg box packaging foam can be supplied in sheets up to 2300mm x 2000mm in size, which can be used to cut down into smaller pads or case inserts. Egg box PU foam parts can be produced onsite using our specialist in-house conversion facilities, where they can also be laminated to other materials to produce composite sheets, or covered with one of our many foils or self-adhesives.
What Are Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets?
Sheets of Polyurethane are available in a diverse range of material variants in both solid and open cell ‘foam’ types - with even the foams having rigid or flexible options. Convoluted packaging polyurethane foam sheets are one of the softer grades available, at around 25kg/m3 they are often used for packaging, storing and transporting delicate or valuable items safely.
Convoluted Egg crate foam sheets can also be used for transporting electronics where ESD (electro static discharge) safe grades of this foam are also available.
Why USE Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets?
The main reasons for using convoluted packaging polyurethane foam sheets are the design and softness of the foam itself, where the peaks and troughs ensure items are kept firmly in place, sandwiching products between two sheets of this foam ensures the safe storage and transport of fragile or valuable items.
Convoluted Polyurethane foam sheets are split from master blocks and are available in a range of thicknesses for use with even the most awkwardly shaped items.
Benefits of using Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam
- Cheaper alternative to bespoke cut packaging inserts
- Reduces damage in transit, therefore saving money
- Protects from scratches, vibration and impact
- Available in anti-static and flame retardant grades
- Odourless and non-toxic
Eggbox foam is designed to absorb sound waves and reduce reverberation. The convoluted surface helps trap and disperse sound energy, making it an effective material for improving acoustics in various environments, such as recording studios, home theaters, and bedrooms.
By absorbing and diffusing sound, eggbox foam sheets contribute to reducing overall noise levels in a space. This is particularly beneficial in areas where unwanted echoes or background noise need to be minimized.
Eggbox foam is often more affordable than other acoustic treatment materials, making it a cost-effective solution for individuals and businesses looking to enhance sound quality without a significant budget.
Eggbox foam sheets are lightweight and easy to install. They can be easily cut to size and attached to walls or ceilings using adhesive, making them a convenient option for both permanent and temporary acoustic treatment.
Eggbox foam is versatile and can be used in a variety of settings. It is commonly employed in recording studios, podcasting spaces, home theaters, and bedrooms, as well as in industrial settings to dampen machinery noise.
Eggbox foam sheets can be easily cut or shaped to fit specific areas and requirements. This allows for customization based on the unique acoustic challenges of a particular space.

Different Types of Packaging Foam Available
Most foams can be used for packaging as they will absorb impact, however certain foams are produced with unique features for transporting or storing items safely. Some of the other more popular packaging foams include:
Polyurethane (PU) slabs - A soft protective open-cell foam used to absorb shock, which will quickly recover following any impact or compression. This type of packaging foam is the same material as the convoluted type, still offering protection from scuffs and dents - but without the peaks.
Polyethylene (PE) - A closed cell foam which is more rigid and higher in density making it great for protecting against vibration and shock, being closed cell its ideal for packing items which need to be protected from moisture.
Anti-Static - Polyurethane and Polyethylene foams are available in anti-static or static dissipative grades, which are use for transporting electronic products. These foams not only protect items from physical damage, but also from damage which could be caused by static charge.
Pick & Pluck Polyurethane - This foam is the same material as the PU slabs and the convoluted packaging foams, but is supplied as a complete sheet made up of multiple layers, each of which us lightly scored to create removable ‘cubes’ which can be picked out to create the shape suited to fit around the item being transported.
Advantages Of Using Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane Foam Sheets
There are many excellent advantages to using Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane foam sheets, firstly the softness and the convoluted surface provides protection from scratches and bumps, holding even the most awkward and irregular of shaped products in place.
Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane foam sheets are split from master blocks and can therefore be produced in different thicknesses and also in different grades such as anti-static and flame retardant.
Convoluted packaging polyurethane foams are supplied in a number of standard sized sheets up to 2300mm x 2000mm, but as we carry out our own in-house conversion, we can cut these down into pads or smaller profiles when they are being used to line cases or boxes.
Convoluted Packaging Polyurethane foam sheets are often sold in pairs when used for packaging as they securely sandwich valuable or delicate products between the 2 layers of the convoluted foam, offering cushioning, abrasion resistance and impact protection.
Items which benefit from being transported in this manner include tools, medical equipment and high-end camera equipment or lighting. Acoustic convoluted egg box foam sheets are easy to cut using scissors, knives or press tools and can be coated in a choice of self adhesives where required.
