Plastazote Foam Washers

Plastazote Washers

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd collaborates with leading material manufacturers and suppliers, allowing us to provide washers made from a wide variety of materials in numerous grades, densities, and colours. Among the most popular is Low-Density Plastazote foam, available in densities ranging from 15kg to 70kg (LD15, LD33, LD45, LD60, and LD70). This cross-linked, closed-cell polyethylene foam is lightweight, highly durable, and free from chemical agents, making it ideal for use in sensitive or controlled environments.

Plastazote PE foam is supplied in block form and can be converted into sheets and rolls of varying thicknesses, from which washers can be cut. Each Plastazote foam washer is made to order, based on customer-provided dimensions, samples, or technical drawings. We also offer small sample runs to ensure the final product meets the exact requirements of the application.

Our production team selects the most efficient manufacturing method depending on the size and quantity of washers required. This can include an atom, auto, travelling head, or kiss-cut pressing machines. For larger or thicker washers, CNC (oscillating knife) programming is used to ensure precision while keeping lead times low. Plastazote foam is available in a variety of grades, densities, and colours and can be laminated or coated with self-adhesive backing before cutting.

    Characteristics of Plastazote Foam

Plastazote foam is available in standard black and white, with additional colours such as red, blue, yellow, green, and pink supplied on request. Foam densities range from 15kg to 70kg, with a closed-cell structure that provides excellent thermal insulation and chemical resistance. The material can operate in temperatures from -70℃ to +105℃. Full technical specifications are available upon request or for download from our online portal.

    What are Plastazote Foam Washers?

Plastazote foam washers are flat rings with a defined outer diameter (OD), inner diameter (ID), and thickness, cut from sheets or rolls of foam. They are typically placed between two surfaces to create a level interface, act as spacers, or distribute pressure from fasteners.

The foam is a cross-linked, closed-cell polyethylene, manufactured by introducing nitrogen into polyethylene and expanding the material to create a rigid yet flexible foam. Each nitrogen-filled cell acts like a tiny balloon, allowing the foam to rebound after compression. The closed-cell structure also prevents the absorption of air or liquids, making it highly suitable for washers, seals, and cushioning applications. Foam density, measured in kg/m³, affects weight and compactness, influencing how the material performs under load.

    Why use Plastazote Foam Washers?

Washers made from Plastazote foam offer a combination of flexibility, durability, and versatility. The foam can be easily cut and shaped into washers of virtually any size or thickness, and it retains its resilience even after repeated compression.

Plastazote foam also provides resistance to chemicals, solvents, acids, alkalies, and some oils, making it suitable for demanding applications. Being lightweight and free from chemical agents, the washers can be used safely in clean environments such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, and scientific industries.

These washers are ideal for filling gaps or irregular surfaces, reducing noise, vibrations, and friction, sealing against air, gas, dust, or liquids, and cushioning between moving components to minimise wear and damage.

    Different Grades of Polyethylene Foam

Thanks to our network of manufacturers and suppliers, ASG offers a comprehensive range of polyethylene foams. These include a variety of block foams, anti-static foams, Ethafoam, EVA foam, flame-retardant and chemically cross-linked foams, as well as Low-Density Plastazote (15kg – 70kg) and High-Density Plastazote (30kg – 130kg). Our inventory allows for quick turnaround and ensures that we can meet a wide range of application requirements.

    Benefits of Using Plastazote Foam

Plastazote foam is lightweight yet durable, with excellent impact and shock-absorbing properties. It is water-repellent, buoyant, thermally insulating, and resistant to chemicals, oils, acids, alkalies, and solvents. The material is non-toxic, low in odour, and can be easily cut, converted, and shaped for a wide variety of applications.

Advantages of Using Plastazote Foam Washers

Plastazote foam washers offer a host of advantages across multiple industries. The material is odourless, lightweight, buoyant, and resistant to oils, solvents, acids, and alkalies. Its closed-cell structure prevents liquid absorption and makes it easy to clean. Plastazote foam is weatherproof, UV stable, and ideal for protective packaging such as case inserts.

These properties also make it an excellent choice for washers, providing cushioning, sealing, and recovery from repetitive impacts. The versatility and durability of Plastazote foam washers ensure they are widely used in industrial, scientific, and commercial applications where reliable performance is essential.
