Plastazote Foam Washers
Plastazote Foam Washers
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd work with a number of reputable material manufacturers and suppliers, enabling us to offer washers cut from a range of materials in many grades, densities and colours. Some of our more popular materials include various types of Polyethylene (PE) foam, one of which is Low Density Plastazote foam in densities ranging from 15kg to 70kg (referred to as LD15, LD33, LD45, LD60 or LD70 respectively). This material is a closed cell, cross-linked polyethylene foam which is incredibly lightweight, and free from chemical agents which enables customers to use this material in highly sensitive environments.
Plastazote PE foam is manufactured and stocked in block form from which we can convert sheets and rolls of various thicknesses from which washers can be cut. Plastazote foam washers are all made to order and are produced using dimensions, samples or drawings provided by our customer to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application - even offering a small sample run if required.
Depending on the size and quantity of the washers required, our production team will select from our range of atoms, autos, travelling head, kiss cut pressing machines or for very large or thick washers, we can program our CNC (oscillating knife) to produce the washers in the most efficient way to keep lead times down. Plastazote foam is stocked in a range of grades, colours and densities, which can be laminated to other materials or coated with a sale-adhesive backing prior to the washers being cut.

What are Plastazote Foam Washers?
Plastazote foam washers are a flat ring, comprising of an Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and the thickness, cut from a sheet or roll of material, which can be placed between two surfaces creating a level surface, to act as a spacer or between a nut and bolt to spread the pressure when tightened. Plastazote foam material is a cross-linked, closed cell polyethylene foam, man-made using crude oil into which nitrogen is blown and the foam is expanded. This manufacturing process produces a tough and flexible material. When the plastazote foam is compressed each nitrogen-filled cell acts like a balloon, causing the foam to bounce back to its original shape. Being a closed cell structure of plastazote means it is impenetrable to air and moisture and will not allow liquids to pass through or be absorbed making it an excellent choice for washer and seal production. Plastazote like other polyethylene foams are manufactured in a range of densities for us in different applications. The density of the foam is measured as the weight or mass of the foam across its entire volume or within a cubic meter (m3). The denser the foam, the heavier and more compact the material is, this can have an effect on some of the properties of the material and how it performs.
Why use Plastazote Foam Washers?
Washers manufactured from Plastazote foam offer a number of benefits. Plastazote foam itself is a very low-density foam which can be easily split and converted into washers of virtually any size and thickness, offering excellent compression following compression and impact.
Plastazote foam washers offer resistance to a range of chemicals, solvents, acids, alkalies and some oils, meaning it can be utilised in many applications. All Plastazote materials are lightweight and free from chemical agents, therefore these washers can be used in many ‘clean’ applications such as food, pharmaceutical and science.
Plastazote foam washers can be used to fill gaps and irregularities between uneven surfaces and to provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against air, gas, dust and liquids, and can also be used to cushion between moving parts to reduce friction and damage to components and equipment.
Different Grades of Polyethylene Foam
Having a network of manufacturers and suppliers, allows ASG to offer a full range of polyethylene materials, many of which are readily available from stock for a quick turnaround. Below is just a selection of some of our popular polyethylene material types we can offer:
- Polyethylene (Block foam)
- Anti static
- Ethafoam
- Eva foam
- Flame retardant
- Chemically cross linked
- Low Density (LD) Plastazote (densities from 15kg to 70kg)
- High Density (HD) Plastazote (densities from 30kg to 130kg)
- Stratocell
Benefits of Using Plastazote Foam
- Lightweight & durable
- Good impact and shock absorbing properties
- Water repellent and buoyant
- Excellent chemical, oils, acids, alkalis and solvent resistance
- Good thermal insulation
- Non-toxic and low odour
- Easy to cut, convert & shape
Advantages of Using Plastazote Foam Washers
Plastazote foam washers offer countless advantages and are highly utilised in numerous industries and applications, Plastazote foam is a man-made material, designed to suit a range of requirements and is available in a choice of grades, densities and colours to suit. Plastazote foams are odourless, lightweight, buoyant, non-toxic and offer resistance to many oils, solvents, acids and alkalis. Its closed cell surface does not allow the absorption of liquids and is easy to keep clean, as well as being weatherproof and UV stable.Plastazote foams are usually the preferred choice for protective packaging such as case inserts, but also popular for the production of washers as the material offers excellent sealing and cushioning properties as well as recovery from repetitive impact.
