Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets
Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets
As ASG work with worldwide material suppliers we are able to offer silicone products in various sponge or solid material types, with one being Platinum Cured Silicone.
Platinum Cured Silicone Rubber is manufactured as continuous rolls of material usually in widths of 1.2 or 1.4meters and roll lengths of 5 meters or 10 meters depending on the material thickness which range from 0.5mm to 2mm, but as this solid rubber can be extruded, bespoke thicknesses to order, all of which can be cut or pressed into gaskets.
Our Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets are converted on-site using drawings or samples provided by our customers, from a simple picture frame gasket, to more complex shapes with cut-outs or bolt-holes. Whether it’s a one off sample or a multi-thousand batch run, we have a machine designed to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets every time, which includes a selection of presses, kiss cut machines and a CNC Oscillating knife. Our Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets can be manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses or alternatively moulded into bespoke-shaped parts.
What are Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets?
Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets can be produced in the form of a strip or pad, but are generally an intricately cut shaped piece of material placed between two surfaces to create a low pressure seal preventing the leakage of liquids or gas and to seal against the intrusion of dust and debris. Manufacturing gaskets in-house means we can offer the option to supply them in a plain or self adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.
Unlike many traditional Peroxide cured materials and rubber products, during the formulation of Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets, peroxides aren't used as part of the catalysing process. When using peroxides, traces can often remain in the raw material causing contamination and so silicone manufactured using Platinum Curing and the gaskets cut from them are a more popular choice in industries including medical, food, drink or dairy applications as it is considered a cleaner/purer product.
Platinum cured silicone rubber gaskets are also translucent in colour and appearance - again perfect for the food and drink industries where visibility is crucial, it is also non-toxic and non yellowing.
Why use Platinum Cured Silicone Rubber Gaskets?
Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets are safe and versatile, popular for use in the food, drinks and pharmaceutical industries. The rolls of material itself are easy
to convert into a range of products including gaskets for use in various applications. Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets can be used with applications where there is exposure to extreme temperatures offering an operating temperature range of -40°C to +200°C, radiation, corona, moisture and steam.
Platinum Cured Silicone Rubber is peroxide free, non-toxic and non-yellowing. It’s an extremely flexible and durable material offering good weathering, UV and Ozone resistance. Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets are used as a type of seal, where they can create air or liquid tight seals, as gap fillers for uneven surfaces. They can also be used to reduce friction between moving parts.
Different Grades
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice, our most popular grades of silicone rubber include:
- High Temperature Silicone - FDA approved and suitable for working conditions up to 300°C
- FDA Approved Silicone - all general purpose silicone are certified for use within food, drink & pharmaceutical applications
- Metal Detectable Silicone - used to detect metal fragments
- Fluorosilicone - this material offers the same mechanical properties as standard silicone, but with an improved fuel and mineral oil resistance.
- Conductive Silicone is a carbon filled silicone which conducts a low electrical amperage
- Flame retardant offers a more superior flame retardance, meeting the following standard for railways BS6853 Cat1A and French Norm NFF 16-101 (now superseded by TS EN 45545-2)
Benefits of Platinum Cured Silicone Rubber
- Peroxide Free
- Non-Toxic
- Non-Yellowing & excellent translucency so more visibility
- Durability with a high tear strength
- Lightweight
- Easy to cut
- Highly hydrophobic
Advantages of Using Platinum Cured Silicone Rubber Gaskets
Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets are used for a number of reasons and are especially popular within the food, beverage and medical industries due it being peroxide free, non-toxic and offering excellent purity. Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets are translucent in colour and non-yellowing which makes it perfect for use in sensitive environments as it will not contaminate any food, medicines or liquid it comes into contact with.
Platinum-cured silicones other properties include chemical inertness, higher levels of tensile strength, elongation, and tear strength. These gaskets have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +200°C, and can be used in applications where a resistance to radiation, corona, ozone exposure, moisture, and/or steam is desired.
The curing process for producing Platinum Cured Silicone materials is not only peroxide free, but also emits the use of talc - a mineral which has been known to cause health issues. Platinum Cured Silicone can be taken in full rolls or sheets of material or alternatively converted here at ASG into a range of other products including washers, strips pads and other seals.
