Polyester Polyurethane foam washers are also referred to as Polyester Urethane Foam Washers, Ester Based Polyurethane Foam Washers and Esterfoam Washers. Polyester PU foams are a flexible foam that exhibits high tensile strength and chemical resistance, in comparison to Polyether foam, they are generally more rigid, stronger, and supportive, with physical differences including a glittery sparkle in appearance and feel rougher and more dense to the touch. Ester foam washers are not only manufactured using a standard grade material, but can also be manufactured to order in anti-static, conductive electrostatic dissipative (ESD) and Flame Retardant (FR).
Polyester Polyurethane foam is manufactured in very large master blocks or ‘buns’ usually ranging from around 2 to 2.5meters in length, , 1 to 2 metres in width and 175 to 1260 mm in thickness, which are held in stock from which washers can be produced. Polyester Foam washers are manufactured on-site using drawings or measurements provided by our customers, with whom we work closely to ensure the final product is to their exact specification. Depending upon the size and quantity of washers required, one of many presses or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product - from one off samples to multiple thousand batch runs, we have a machine designed to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed washers everytime.
Depending upon the size and quantity of pads required, one of many presses, bandsaws or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one off samples to multiple thousand batch runs, which can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls - where a high quantity is required or for use on fast paced assembly lines. Our Polyester foam washers can be supplied in a plain finish, laminated in layers to create greater thicknesses, laminated to other materials or coated with a choice of self-adhesives and foils prior to the washers being cut.

What are Polyester Polyurethane Foam Washers?
Polyester PU Foam washers are a flat ring of material with an outer diameter (OD) and inner diameter (ID) measurement, which is placed between two surfaces creating cushioning, acting as a spacer, filtration seal/component cut as a ring shape. Our Polyester foam washers can be produced in a range of thicknesses from as little as around 2mm, manufacturing them inhouse means we can supply them in a plain or self adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.
The Polyester Foam itself is another member of the polymer family, also knows as Polyester Foam or Ester Foam, a flexible material which has a high tensile strength and chemical resistance offering a greater strength and rigidity in comparison to Polyether. Polyester Polyurethane is manufactured in a charcoal colour as standard, formulated and manufactured using a combination of polyester polyols, catalysts and blowing agents which create the foam open cell texture. During the manufacturing process, additives can be introduced which will enable the Polyester Foam to meet various fire code standards, as well as anti-microbial, anti-static, conductive and/or electrostatic dissipative (ESD) which can also be used in washer production.
Why Use Polyester PU Foam Washers?
Polyester Polyurethane foam washers look very similar to those manufactured using Polyether foams, but are often selected for applications which require a higher level of chemical resistance. Polyester Foams are more resistance to hydrocarbons, alcohols, stretching and tearing. Polyester Foams have a fine open cell structure which is uniform in appearance is permeable to air and water, whilst giving it a higher viscosity rate, abrasion and cut resistance.
The thickness of the Polyester Foam used will also impact the efficiency of the washers filtration capacity as the thicker the foam, the less air or fluid that is allowed to flow through the cells - even more so when the material is under compression as the pores will decrease in size therefore reducing the amount of air and liquid passing through the product and also increasing the amount of dust and debris it catches.
Polyester foam washers can also be easily compressed which again will further alter their properties in terms of how firm and porous it is - this will also help determine the thickness of the washer that is actually needed. Unlike many other washers which are used to seal against moisture ingress and spread pressure between fixings, Reticulated foams are used more useful in filtration or anti vibration applications. Polyester PU foams have a fairly high tensile strength, but not as high as standard polyethylene foams, and have a temperature resistance of -30 to +110 ºC. Polyester Foams can be cut into a number of components such as gaskets, washers, strips and pads for use in many applications such as filtration, sound and vibration absorption, protective packaging and medical equipment.

Advantages of using Polyester Polyurethane Foam Washers
Like Polyether Foams, Polyester foams and the washers cut from them are highly durable and offer a range of attractive properties for use in many applications. Being an open cell foam, the Polyester is a breathable material meaning the washers will allow air to circulate throughout its structure.
Polyester Pu foam washers offer excellent compressibility, meaning the material will bounce back and recover quickly from repeated loading, this compressibility makes it a great choice of material for producing washer and other components for cushioning applications.
Polyester Polyurethane Foam Washers are flexible with a high tensile properties and tear resistance, resistance to mould, mildew and fungus growth as well as grease oil water and temperature with working temperature range of around -30°C to +110°C. Polyester PU foam washers can be used in applications where there is contact and exposure to gasses including oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Some of the other ways in which Polyester Polyurethane washers can be found used include soundproofing, scouring sponges, packaging and as water or air filters.
