Ethafoam Rolls
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd hold stocks of Polyethylene in various grades, colours and densities, including our Ethafoam rolls, which is just one of various types of Polyethylene Foam rolls we supply and convert.
Our materials are sourced from the highest quality manufacturers from across the world, allowing us to offer our customers more choice when they are looking for sealing, insulation and packaging solutions to their application. Most polyethylene materials are manufactured in block form, this includes Ethafoam, which vary in size depending on the density and grade but as standard are manufactured in 2m x 1m sized sheets, in standard thicknesses from 5mm up to 50mm.
However stock sheets can be joined split down in order to produce rolls or continuous lengths of material in non standard thicknesses starting from around 1.5mm, however these sheets will have a skin / cell finish. As we also offer an in-house adhesive and lamination service, we can not only split Ethafoam rolls down, we can also apply self adhesives or foil facings to supply them with a selection of finishes.

What are Ethafoam Rolls?
Ethafoam materials are manufactured in sheet or plank form in thicknesses up to 50mm, in 2 meter lengths and 1 meter wide. These blocks are glued and butted together using heat. These joined blocks are then fed through one of our state of the art splitters, which work by setting the blade to peel off the desired thickness of foam which is then hand rolled by the operator around core until the full length of material is done - these lengths are 10 meters as standard, but others are easily produced depending on thickness.
These rolls can either be further converted here at ASG into other components such as strips, pads, gaskets or washers or alternatively shipped to the customer in full who will carry out their own conversions at a later date. Ethafoam rolls are made using a resilient and flexible closed-cell polyethylene foam, similar to polystyrene in appearance and feel, which has a range of uses due to its durability and flexibility.
Ethafoam is a low-density plastic foam made by expanding polyethylene by around 30 times in volume, creating a rigid product which is manufactured or ‘extruded’ as planks so that it has skin on both faces which is textured, with exposed cell along the edges where it has been down to size.
Ethafoam rolls are available in white or grey, and in different grades and densities such as 24kg/m2 and 64kg/m2 for packaging, 102kg/m2 and 145kg/m2 for high load bearing, a Flame Retardant grade and Anti-static which is recognisable by its pink colouration. Ethafoam Polyethylene rolls and components cut from them are usually found for use as packaging or transportation due to its impact, shock absorption and cushioning properties and its resistance to moisture.
Why use Ethafoam Foam Rolls?
Ethafoam foam rolls of material are recognisable by their finish and texture, in comparison to some the PE foams they are very rigid and plastic like. Blocks of Ethafoam are held in stock ready for converting in bespoke sized rolls or one of our many other bespoke products to order where they are often used as packaging, sealing, provide cushioning and vibration absorption or as heat insulation.
Ethafoam rolls are used where larger quantities or longer lengths of material are required, and even when long strips are needed as these rolls can be placed on our log cutters in order to produce coils of self-adhesive ethafoam coils and tapes.
Ethafoam rolls are often found used within packaging such as to produce case or container linings and are vital in the storage and transportation of fragile, sensitive and valuable products where protection from repeated impact, moisture, chemicals and mildew or fungus is required, Ethafoam is a go to material, as the rolls are easily machined or fabricated into bespoke sized products in order to securely hold items in place whilst providing cushioning.
As Ethafoam is manufactured in a number of grades and densities, the rolls can be used for holding and supporting products regardless of its weight, however due to the coarse nature of the material it may not always be suitable for direct contact with products especially those with a polished or delicate surface as it may cause abrasive damage.
Benefits of using Ethafoam Polyethylene:
- Shock, impact and vibration absorption
- Moisture resistant
- Impervious to many chemicals, mould, fungus and bacteria
- Easy to cut, carve and fabricate
- Available in a range of densities
- Lightweight
Alternative Packaging Foams
- Convoluted or Eggbox Polyurethane
- Pick & pluck Polyurethane
- Anti-static Polyethylene
- Anti-static Polyurethane
- Conductive Polyethylene
- Plastazote foams
- Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam
Advantages of using Ethafoam Rolls
Ethafoam raw materials are manufactured in sheet or ‘plank’ form as standard, but as this material is so machinable, it can easily joined together to produce rolls of continuous lengths of material, which can later be pressed and sawn into smaller products including pads, strips and washers.
Ethafoam Polyethylene is a very strong, lightweight material with the rolls having a skin finish which creates a moisture, mildew and bacteria resistant strip. This material itself is resilient therefore the rolls are able to withstand repeated impact, vibration and will insulate against both high and low temperatures - offering a working temperature range of -30 to +80ºC and resistance to many chemicals.
Just some of the advantages of using Ethafoam rolls is its durability, choice of grey or white colours, selection of available densities from 24kg/m3 to 145kg/m2 to be able to withstand even extreme weight and the availability of specialist grades such as Flame Retardant and Anti-Static. Ethafoam shock and vibration absorption levels can be increased by stacking or layering multiple layers of material together to create depth.
Due to the choice of Ethafoam materials available, the rolls can be found used in a range of applications from standard packaging around electrical appliances, white goods and case inserts through to supporting very heavy objects such as ground cables or under machinery feet.
