Poron Sheet

Poron Sheet

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd stocks a wide variety of materials in block and roll form, many of which can be cut or split into sheets for use. Among these options is Poron sponge rubber, sourced from leading global manufacturers, providing customers with high-quality, versatile materials for a wide range of applications.

Poron sponge is produced in continuous roll lengths with thicknesses ranging from 0.53mm to 12.7mm. Sheets are typically supplied in standard sizes of 2 metres by 1 metre or square metre cuts. For non-standard thicknesses, our advanced splitting machines allow us to produce sheets as thin as 1.5mm, with either a cell-to-cell or skin-to-cell surface finish.

Our on-site conversion facilities, equipped with presses, log cutters, slitters, bandsaws and oscillating knives, enable us to transform Poron sheets into finished components, including pads, washers, gaskets or strips. These can be supplied plain or laminated with self-adhesives, foils, or other materials to suit specific project requirements.

What are Poron Sponge Rubber Sheets?

Poron sheets are cut from Poron sponge rolls, providing customers with flexibility when smaller quantities are needed. Standard sheets are supplied at 1 metre wide, with lengths of 1 or 2 metres, and can be provided plain or with a self-adhesive finish.

Poron is a closed-cell microcellular urethane foam manufactured by casting and curing foamed urethane compounds. These high-density, flexible sheets offer low outgassing, non-fogging, and non-corrosive properties, making them ideal for gaskets, seals, and vibration management applications.

Poron is available in multiple grades, from soft, easily compressible sheets for enhanced sealability to firmer grades that withstand high-energy impacts. Slow-recovery grades are also available for applications that require a low closure force.

Why use Poron Sponge Rubber Sheets?

Poron sheets feature a smooth outer surface on both sides and offer numerous functional benefits. Components cut from Poron are suitable for creating watertight seals, thermal insulation, and vibration and noise reduction, while providing resistance to impact, chemicals, heat, UV, and ozone.

Poron meets the flammability standards of UL-94 HBF and MVSS 302 without the use of flame-retardant additives. Its low outgassing and non-fogging properties ensure long-term durability, while its non-corrosive formulation prevents damage to surrounding components or machinery.

Supplying Poron in sheet form allows customers to cut their own strips, pads, gaskets or washers as needed, reducing waste and saving costs when only small amounts are required.

Benefits of Using Poron Sponge Rubber

    • Excellent compression set resistance

    • Operating temperature range: -40°C to +90°C

    • Strong chemical resistance

    • Flame-retardant to UL-94 HBF and MVSS 302

    • Non-corrosive, low outgassing and non-fogging

    • Easy to fabricate into components such as gaskets, pads, washers, and strips

    Other Grades of Sponge Available

ASG supplies a variety of sponge materials, each with unique properties suited to different industrial applications:

EPDM Sponge Rubber: Offers excellent weathering, UV and ozone resistance, making it ideal for outdoor sealing. EPDM offers acoustic, thermal, and vibration damping, as well as mechanical strength and abrasion resistance. Available in medium, firm, high-temperature, and semi-open cell grades.

Neoprene Sponge Rubber: A resilient, versatile material with UV and ozone resistance, chemical stability, and a working temperature range of -40°C to +115°C. Also resistant to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Silicone Sponge: A closed-cell, resilient material with high-temperature stability, chemical inertness, waterproofing, and excellent resistance to ozone and UV.

Viton Sponge: A closed-cell sponge with skin on both faces for enhanced tear resistance. Operates between -25°C and +204°C, with strong resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, lubricants, acids, ozone, and weathering.

PVC Nitrile Sponge: Provides air, gas, and watertight sealing; thermal insulation; vibration reduction; and resistance to impact, heat, UV radiation, ozone, and flames.

Industrial Sponge Rubber: A high-quality, open-cell natural sponge, ideal for protective applications, expansion joints, anti-vibration solutions, and limited fluid/gas absorption where required.

Advantages of Using Poron Sponge Sheet

Poron sheets are strong, flexible, and high-quality. Available in multiple roll sizes and thicknesses, they can be converted into sheets or pre-cut components ready for immediate use.

    Key advantages include:

    • Excellent compression set resistance for long-term durability

    • Non-fogging, low outgassing foam free from residual chemicals or plasticisers

    • Moisture, chemical, UV and ozone resistant

    • Prevents condensation, corrosion, bacterial and fungal growth

    • Working temperature range: -40°C to +90°C

    • Flame-retardant to UL-94 HBF and MVSS 302 standards

    • Easily converted into sheets, strips, tapes, gaskets, pads, and washers.

Poron components are widely used as trims, glazing seals, anti-vibration pads, automotive and lighting gaskets, and many other industrial applications.
