PTFE Washers
PTFE Plastic Washers
Washers manufactured from plastic sheets are just a small part of the thousands of products supplied by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, which are available in a wide range of grades, colours, thicknesses, and finishes. One of the plastics we use to manufacture washers is PTFE, or Polytetrafluoroethylene, sometimes also known as Teflon. PTFE washers are highly versatile and are available in tubes of various lengths and diameters, as well as sheets ranging from 0.25mm to 100mm thick, in sizes up to 1500mm x 1500mm (depending on thickness), from which washers can be cut.
All our washers are produced in-house by combining a skilled workforce with high-spec machinery, using either our CNC oscillating knife or one of our presses for thinner washers. Our equipment allows us to manufacture PTFE washers to your specified dimensions in any quantity, quickly and efficiently. They can be supplied with a choice of self-adhesives or foils, ensuring a high-quality product and potential cost savings.

What are PTFE Washers?
PTFE washers are flat rings made from Polytetrafluoroethylene, a fluorocarbon material composed of carbon and fluorine. PTFE is naturally white, hydrophobic, and non-stick. In its virgin grade, PTFE has lower mechanical strength than some other plastics, but this can be enhanced with additives such as glass fibre or carbon.
A PTFE washer is placed between two surfaces or joints to reduce friction, prevent unsteadiness, and provide a level surface for nuts, bolts, or other fixings. It can also serve as a water- or air-tight seal. PTFE washers are produced using customer samples, drawings, or dimensions that detail Outer Diameter (OD), Inner Diameter (ID), and Thickness. They can be supplied in plain or self-adhesive finishes.
Advantages of Using PTFE Washers
PTFE washers offer numerous benefits, making them ideal for a wide range of applications. They have low friction, allowing moving parts to slide easily with less heat and wear. PTFE’s non-stick properties make surfaces easy to clean, preventing dirt and dust buildup.
PTFE washers are non-flammable, resistant to high temperatures, and highly durable against chemicals and weathering. They also have excellent electrical insulation properties, making them suitable for many industrial applications. PTFE washers can be cut from sheets or tubes into bespoke sizes for use in chemical plants, food and pharmaceutical processing, laboratories handling corrosive chemicals, or circuit board components where electrical insulation is critical.
Why Use PTFE Washers?
PTFE washers are chosen for their unique combination of properties, including high thermal stability, chemical resistance, and a broad operating temperature range of -240°C to +260°C. The material is chemically inert (except for elemental alkali metals, chlorine trifluoride, and elemental fluorine at high temperatures), resistant to ozone and flame. It has a very low coefficient of friction, preventing most materials from sticking. PTFE washers are soft, formable, and have excellent bearing, wear, and dielectric properties.
