ASG is one of the UK’s largest non-metallic material converters, with a network of manufacturers and suppliers that enables us to offer an array of seals, including those produced from various grades of solid commercial rubber.
We supply the highest-quality commercial rubber seals, including gaskets, washers, O-rings, mouldings, and extrusions, available in various shapes, sizes, and materials to meet diverse requirements. These products are designed to prevent leaks or the ingress of air, fluids, and gases. All our seals are made to order and are produced using samples or drawings provided by customers to ensure the final product fits the application perfectly.
As each seal type requires a different manufacturing process, ASG has invested heavily in various machinery and advanced fabrication techniques, enabling us to offer both high and low quantities. Commercial rubber seals are engineered to operate reliably in a wide range of industrial and commercial environments.
What are Solid Commercial Rubber Seals?
Solid Commercial Rubber (SBR styrene-butadiene rubber) is an economy-grade, black material with higher wear resistance than solid natural rubber and remains flexible even at low temperatures. SBR rubber compounds are often mixed with other polymers, such as neoprene (NR/SBR), EPDM, and Nitrile (NBR/SBR), to improve or add additional properties.
Solid commercial rubber is available in a range of hardnesses of 60, 65 and 70 shore A. ‘Seal’ is a generic term for products often taking the form of cut gaskets, strips, rubber strips, solid rubber strips, rubber extrusions, washers, extruded or moulded profiles, and edge trims. Rubber strips and solid rubber strips are commonly used for sealing, edging, cushioning, and surface protection. In contrast, rubber extrusions are essential for sealing doors, hatches, and cabinets to prevent water ingress and drafts.
They are often used as a gap-filler between surfaces, acting as a separator or barrier to prevent liquids, particles, or gases from escaping or penetrating the application, and in a number of vibration-dampening, sealing, and insulating applications. Solid commercial rubber seals are available in various thicknesses and widths to suit different application requirements. For outdoor and weather-exposed applications, UV-resistant materials such as EPDM and silicone are available to ensure durability in sunlight and harsh environments.

Why use Solid Commercial Rubber Seals?
Customers often choose commercial rubber for the production of their seals because it is a low-cost, general-purpose material with high tensile and impact strength, resistance to abrasion, and flexibility even at low temperatures. SBR rubber is a cost-effective choice for a wide range of sealing needs, making it a practical option for many industries.
Solid commercial rubber has a working temperature range of 70℃ to -20℃ and good water resistance. SBR rubber is not suitable for applications involving chemicals, ozone, strong acids, grease, fats and oils, and hydrocarbons. When selecting materials for seals, it is essential to consider the type of contact the seal will have, such as direct contact with oils, chemicals, or food, to ensure durability and safety in specific environments.
This material is often used in many general-purpose applications, such as sealing strips, automotive parts, gaskets, washers, and extruded or moulded seals.
Benefits of Commercial Rubber
- Excellent resilience and tensile strength
- Excellent seal against air, water and diluted mixtures
- Temperature: -20°C up to +70°C.
- Abrasion resistance
- Excellent impact strength
Grades of Commercial Rubber Available
Advanced Seals & Gaskets works with many material manufacturers, giving our customers more choices. Commercial rubber is not only available as an SBR grade, but also blended with other polymers to provide a cheaper alternative; some of these blends include:
CR/SBR (neoprene) is manufactured using neoprene rubber and SBR compounds to create a material with properties of a premium-grade material at a reduced cost. This material is generally used for gap sealing and dust seals. Commercial-grade neoprene offers resistance to oils, grease, dilute acids, and alkalies, and is hard-wearing enough to be used outdoors.
NBR/SBR (Nitrile) is manufactured using nitrile rubber and SBR compounds to create a material suitable for general-purpose gasketing. This commercial-grade rubber offers resistance to fuels, petroleum, oils, and many solvents, making it ideal for a variety of industrial applications. NBR/SBR is especially valued for its excellent oil resistance, making it suitable for automotive and industrial applications where oil exposure is common.
EPDM/SBR rubber is another hybrid made up of 2 different compounds. This particular grade of material offers good resistance to weathering and Ozone deterioration and provides properties such as high tensile strength and tear resistance. Commercial-grade EPDM rubber is typically used for applications such as pipe seals, weather strips and dust seals.
PVC is also used for certain protective fenders, bumpers, and sealing products due to its durability and versatility in industrial applications.
Seals are available in a variety of forms and can be supplied with self-adhesive backing or used in conjunction with adhesives for secure installation.
