EPDM Strip

EPDM strips have been manufactured by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd since 1996 using in-house facilities and by expertly trained staff producing anything from a 1 off sample to multi-thousand batches.  We can manufacture the longer EPDM strip in roll/coil form or for shorter strips - individually cut parts or kiss-cut supplied on rolls to allow for a more time-efficient use.

Advanced Seals & Gaskets have the ability to manufacture strips in thickness ranging from as little as 1mm, right up to 50mm from a single block.  We can also offer an in-house laminating service allowing us to offer thicknesses greater than 50mm if required.  Our cutting facilities means we can produce strips from just 4mm in width, up to 1000mm – square or rectangular sections from a few mm long up to 50meters in length can all be manufactured either using our state of the art slitting machines (log-cutters) or on the band saw depending upon the size required

What is EPDM?

EPDM is the abbreviated name for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, synthetic rubber such a popular choice includes the fact that is it air and watertight, ages well without becoming brittle, offers good UV resistance, works well in a wide range of temperatures. EPDM also provides excellent chemical resistance and good electrical properties. EPDM resists animal and vegetable oils, steam, water, and oxygenated solvents.

As well as being able to withstand temperatures ranging from a low of -35°C up to a high of 120°C, provides good general resistance to animal and vegetable oils, chemicals, and electrical properties.

The fact that EPDM is waterproof and works well under pressure makes it the ideal material for gaskets to be used in deep sea applications, while its noise insulating properties mean it is often featured in household appliances that call for lower levels of noise and movement.

The advantages of using EPDM as a material

    • Thermal stability –   excellent temperature stability –40° to +120°C
    • Environmental resilience – EPDM gaskets are extremely resistant to wear, ageing, weather influences and UV-light.
    • Chemical resistance –   resistance to animal and vegetable oils/good resistance to acids
    • Durability –  long last lasting quality of an EPDM gasket greatly reduces expenditure on maintenance and replacements

    Why use EPDM Strip?

EPDM rubber strips are an important component in many applications as they’re used to create a flexible seal between two or more mating or uneven surfaces, preventing the leakage of liquids, air, and the intrusion of debris such as dust and dirt- hence why this product is often called ‘Gasket Tape or Gasket Strip’.

EPDM rubber offers oil and grease resistance, high resistance to the environmental impact of fresh and saltwater, UV, ozone, and weathering, this means the seal they create offers stability and longevity.  This flexible and durable material is an ideal choice for manufacturing strips for use in a vast range of industries including aerospace, MOD (Ministry of Defence), food industry, automotive, and construction.

ASG supply a range of EPDM strips primarily in black, with the exception of food grade EPDM which are available in blue and white.

    The Benefits of EPDM Strip

    • Reducing operational noise
    • Absorbing shock
    • Cushioning against abrasion
    • Acting to seal a link between pipes or connectors
    • The resistance and transmission of electricity
    • Insulating electrical charges

    Self-Adhesive EPDM Strips

ASG can supply EPDM strips in a plain finish or complete with self-adhesive backing. The addition of an adhesive holds the gasket in place, ensuring it remains stable even if the application moves.

Clients can choose from a selection of adhesives including acrylic, scrim, and tissue with low, medium, or high tack options, depending upon the individual requirements.

    Grades of EPDM Strip

We pride ourselves on listening to exactly what each client needs and can supply strips in different grades of EPDM rubber, depending upon the demands of each application. Our commercial grades of EPDM are available in 40, 50, 60, and 70 shore hardness’s, the 40-50 shore rubber offers moderate pliability and elasticity, whilst the harder 60-70 shore offers higher abrasion resistant durability, but less pliability and flexibility.

We also utilise a Water Research Advisory Service (WRAS) Approved EPDM for use in Potable (drinking) Water Applications, Food Safe Grade (blue or white in colour), Insertion rubber, and Peroxide Cured.  Speak to our sales team if you have any questions about the grade you require or would like to see samples.

EPDM Rubber Strips – FDA Approved, WRAS Approved

Our Food Quality EPDM Rubber strips are manufactured from material blue or white in colour which meets EU1935: 2004, FDA 21 CFR part 177 Section 2600 Allowable Substances.  We ensure our FDA Approved strips meet stringent quality control, ensuring that the production facility is protected from the risks of contamination.

In addition, we offer WRAS Approved EPDM (The Water Regulation Advisory Scheme) which meets BS EN 681-1 and can be used in applications relating to Drinking and Potable water.  This is typically a black EPDM rubber with a cloth finish that has a resistance to Microbiological growth.
