Neoprene Rubber Fabrication
Neoprene Rubber Fabrication
The excellent manufacturing facilities here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd includes a specialist fabrication department, within which various materials can be fabricated and formed into a range of components. One of the many solid rubber materials fabricated by Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd is solid neoprene rubber.
A fabrication often requires a combination of specialist machinery, usually a selection of saws, drills, buffers and knives, alongside the manual adhesion and construction of the finished product. By choosing ASG for your neoprene rubber fabrications, you will also benefit from the availability of our CNC oscillating knife, which can automatically cut and drill fabricated parts by reading CAD drawings.
Neoprene rubber Fabrications are often used as a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions for production of bespoke shapes as there is no initial die or tooling cost, ideal for when one off prototypes or small quantity runs are needed.
All our solid neoprene rubber fabrications are made to order, produced using samples or drawings provided by customers, and can take many forms including multiple material laminating to create composites sheets which can then be cut down into gaskets, washers, strips, displays & signage (such as logos/lettering) and seals with flexible joints or irregular angles.

What Is a Solid Neoprene Rubber Fabrication?
A fabrication is the procedure used to turn solid neoprene rubber pieces or sheets of material into custom made 3D usable shapes. Fabrications can be created using a combination of CNC machines, saws, drills, buffers, glues etc, enabling us to create unique products that usually cannot not be produced by one single process for example where the item is too big to be produced in one single piece, or where 3D profiles are required such as cubes or cone shapes.
Solid Neoprene rubber fabrications (Polychloroprene or CR) are made using a synthetic rubber, black in colour, which has good chemical stability and maintains its natural flexibility over a wide range of temperatures. Neoprene rubber is highly durable as the material holds a high tolerance to extreme weathers and conditions, with good resistance to oil, chemicals and ozone.
Solid neoprene rubber fabrications can be made in a range of hardnesses from 40°- 70° shore (the shore hardness is measured using a shore durometer which indicates the level of resistance to indentation ,the higher number on the scale indicate a greater resistance - harder the material/lower number indicate less resistance- softer the material).
Why Use Solid Neoprene Rubber Fabrications?
Neoprene rubber fabrications are often used as a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions as there is no initial die/tooling cost for production of bespoke shapes, these are ideal for use as samples or prototypes prior to paying for expensive tooling for mouldings or extrusions for bulk production.
They are also perfect for producing props, signs, displays, packaging case/box inserts with routered out cut outs, shaped to hold specific items in place and sleeves. Neoprene Rubber fabrications have a range of desirable properties which means they can be used within countless applications.
Neoprene rubber has good resistance to oils, chemicals, UV, ozone, weathering and moderate resistance to oils (animal & vegetable) and inorganic salts. The material has a wide working temperature range of-20°C to +70℃ (depending on grade) and is a strong material with excellent abrasion properties.
Benefits Of Using Neoprene Rubber
- Popular for external applications
- Durable
- Variety of Grades available
- Impermeable to water and dust
- Moderate resistance to oil, chemical greases and fats.
- Excellent resistance to ozone, weathering and ageing
Different Grades of Neoprene Rubber Available
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when using neoprene rubber. Neoprene rubber sheets can be supplied in a number of grades and hardnesses, some of the main ones being:
(BS2752) British standard 2752 is a higher performing, stronger grade of neoprene rubber which offers a wider working temperature range of -30°C up to +120°C,greater resistance to ageing, weathering, acids, inorganic salts, oils and ozone as well as improved strength and anti-abrasion qualities in comparison to standard neoprene. This grade is available in shore hardnesses of 40°, 50°, 60°, 70° and 80.
Flame retardant neoprene rubber can handle continuous temperatures of -30°C to +100°C, this material meets the test requirements of the flammability standard UL94-V0 and is in line with ISO 340. Flame retardant neoprene rubber sheets are also tested in accordance with anti-static BS 490.
Food Quality (FDA) neoprene is white in colour, and conforms to EC and FDA regulations for use within the food processing and pharmaceutical industries. Properties including resistance to fats, greases and vegetable oils, combined with a higher tensile strength and wider working temperature range of -30°C up to +130°C make it a popular material to use.
The Advantages of Using Solid Neoprene Fabrications
Solid neoprene rubber fabrications are very popular amongst a range of industries due the number of excellent properties and the various grades available, making it a very durable and usable material.
Neoprene rubber is used for fabrications where a strong, abrasive material is required in an environment where exposure or sealing against extreme weather, water , salts, oil grease, UV/Ozone and gases is necessary. Solid Neoprene Rubber fabrications can be made from parts cut from sheets, made up of layers of multiple materials or even from extrusions which are cut and joined together.
As well as fabrications, Neoprene rubber can be converted into a range of products such as sleeves, belts, tubes, gaskets and washers for use in countless applications including electrical insulations, engineering applications, window seal, anti-vibration and cable protection, to name a few.
