Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd we offer washers cut from a broad spectrum of materials including many foams, sponges, plastics and rubbers. Polyurethane Washers are just one group used in the production of our washers, available from ASG in foam and solid versions.
Solid Polyurethane is part of the synthetic polymer family and is a popular rubber found used in a range of industries, it’s a high performance rubber, abrasion resistant and extremely durable. Standard industrial grade Polyurethane rubber is usually available from stock in 60° shore and 80° shore hardnesses and in translucent and black colour options, other hardnesses available to order range from 5 shore to 95 shore, and in thicknesses up to 100mm (depending on sheet size).
Using this high quality material and state of the art machinery, our in-house conversion facilities produce PU rubber washers, all made to order and produced by using ID and OD dimensions, samples or drawings as a template to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application - even offering a small sample run if required.
Depending on the size and quantity of washer required, our production team will select from our range of atoms, autos, travelling head press, kiss cut press machines or for very large or thick washers, we can programme our CNC (oscillating knife) to produce the washers in the most efficient way to keep costs competitive and lead times down.

What are Solid Polyurethane Washers?
Solid Polyurethane is an extremely durable synthetic rubber material offering strength and abrasion resistance. Solid Polyurethane can be manufactured in roll or sheet form from which washers can be cut using one of our many presses or CNC machines.
Solid Polyurethane washers are a flat ring (comprising of an Outer Diameter (OD), Inner Diameter (ID) and the thickness) cut from a sheet or roll of material, which is placed between two surfaces creating a level surface, acting as a spacer or between a nut/bolt to spread the pressure when tightened.
They are also used within equipment and machinery between moving parts for vibration dampening, sealing and noise reduction.
Why use Solid Polyurethane Washers?
Along with the strength and durability offered by the Solid Polyurethane washers, other properties include good ageing, chemical, oil, grease and solvent resistance. Solid Polyurethane washers in comparison to other rubber materials, have a higher tear resistance, better high load bearing capabilities, energy absorption - sound and vibration and do not discolour as easily.
Solid Polyurethane washers offer a working temperature range of -30°C to +80°C, are available in thicknesses up to 100m and can be made in a wide range of colours and hardnesses from 5 to 95 shore. Solid Polyurethane washers are often used within electrical applicances, engineering applications, anti-vibration and automotive engineering and construction to name a few.
Alternative Grades of Solid Rubber
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a wide network of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when looking for solid rubber, our most popular grades include:
- Neoprene (CR) is one of our most popular solid rubber materials, with various thicknesses held in stock. Neoprene is suitable for use where there is exposure to grease, oil, acids, ozone and even sea water.
- EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) another very popular solid rubber is great for use in outdoor applications. This material is resistant to water, UV, ozone, weather, abrasion, alkalines, ketones and diluted acids.
- Nitrile (NBR) rubber is a popular solid material for use within the automotive industry where there is contact with petroleum, oil and grease.
- SBR (Styrene-butadiene rubber) is a cost effective, commercial grade, general purpose rubber with good abrasion resistance, tensile strength and low compression set. (not sure use with petrol and chemicals).
- Silicone (SI) is an excellent electrical insulation material which can operate at high and low temperatures. Silicone rubber performs well when exposed to UV, weathering, ozone and moisture, and is available in a range of colours.
- Viton rubber materials are manufactured for more demanding applications where there are harsh chemicals and high temperatures present. Viton rubber offers resistance to fluids, oils, acids and petroleum based liquids.

Solid PU washers are lightweight, shock absorbing, durable and flexible, maintaining its physical integrity under extreme heat and load bearing. Solid PU washers have excellent oil-resistant qualities that are useful for exposure to oils, grease or other lubricants.
The high temperature resistance makes Solid Polyurethane washers popular for use within production lines where there is extreme heat such as ovens and furnaces. All of the above features also make washers cut from this material widely utilised within the automotive industry used as engine mounts, seals and gaskets. Polyurethane can be utilised in a range of applications as it can be manufactured and converted in many ways, Polyurethane washers can be cut from sheets or rolls of material, but for very thick or bespoke washers they can be extruded or moulded in order to produce such parts.
Polyurethane rubber is generally known to last longer than rubber, especially in applications where it’s constantly stretched or otherwise exposed to stress, PU components are manufactured using a non-corrosive compound, available in in a choice of hardnesses and colours and due to the range of manufacturing techniques used in the production of the materials and parts, it is found utilised across a range of industries and applications.
