Sorbo Pads
Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we can supply pads (including sorbo pads) manufactured from a variety of materials, including specialist sponges such as open-cell industrial sponges (also called Sorbo sponge or open cell natural industrial sponge). The open-cell industrial sponge is manufactured in rolls of various lengths in standard thicknesses ranging from 3mm up to 25mm with skin finish on both faces from which sorbo pads can be cut.
Our Sorbo sponge pads are produced on-site using drawings or measurements provided by our customers, with whom we work closely to ensure the final product is to their exact specification. Depending upon the size and quantity of sorbo pads required, one of many presses, bandsaws or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one-off samples to multiple batches runs, which can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast-paced assembly lines.
What are Sorbo Pads?
The open-cell industrial sponge is a natural rubber sponge material manufactured with patterned skin and an open-cell structure giving it excellent compression recovery properties and allows for the circulation of gases and fluids in applications that require it. Open-cell Industrial sponges can be used to cut sorbo pads which are often used in the same way as a gasket, whereby they are used to create a seal between uneven surfaces and fill irregularities.
Our sorbo pads can be produced as squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval-shaped pads or ‘discs’, in a range of thicknesses. Manufacturing pads in-house even means we can supply them in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.

Why use Sorbo Pads?
Sorbo sponge rubber is manufactured to be soft and compressible, with excellent compression recovery properties. Open-cell natural industrial sponge (Sorbo) is pre-manufactured and stocked in a range of standard roll lengths and thicknesses, ready for despatch or conversion into usable cut parts.
Using Sorbo pads are often taken for use with sealing against dust, air and moisture, gap-filling between uneven surfaces or for reducing unwanted noise and vibration. ASG can produce pads in various material types and grades, each with different levels of resistance, formulated for use in different applications and environments.
The Advantages of using Sorbo Sponge Pads
Using Sorbo Sponge pads offer numerous advantages, it's a soft- feel material with an open-cell structure allowing the material to be used in applications where resistance to fluids is only required when a surface coating is applied, otherwise, it will still slow for moisture absorption, allowing for the circulation of moisture and gas when the application requires it.
Open-cell natural sponge rubber is available in a range of thicknesses, all offering excellent compression recovery particularly when it’s used for repetitive loading and distortion applications such as packaging and expansion joint sealing, it also has excellent sound and vibration absorption properties making it perfect for use in flooring systems mainly as joist isolation tapes.
Sorbo pads including sorbo sponge pads are manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses with skin on both sides, for non-standard thicknesses, we can split down one of the skins and offer alternatives in a skin-cell finish.
Benefits of Using Sorbo Sponge
- Excellent compression recovery properties.
- Seal around uneven or complex shapes
- Interconnected cell structures also allow for the limited absorption
- Circulation of gases and fluids
- Good anti-vibration properties
- Good weathering & ozone resistance
Other Grades of Sponge Materials Available
