Sulphur Free EPDM Sponge Sheet
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is one of Advanced Seals & Gaskets’ most in-demand materials and is widely used across multiple industries. Available in both solid and sponge variations, EPDM comes in a variety of grades, hardnesses and densities—including sulphur-free EPDM sponge rubber sheets.
One of the specialist grades we offer is Sulphur-Free EPDM Sponge, also known as Peroxide-Cured EPDM. This material is produced in block form and converted into sheets using our precision splitting machinery. This allows us to supply sheet thicknesses as low as 1mm, with standard sheet sizes of 2m x 1m. We can also cut material into bespoke sizes, pads or components.
Our in-house laminating service further enables us to bond layers together for greater depth or apply finishes such as self-adhesive backings, foils or laminates to other materials.

What Are Sulphur-Free EPDM Sponge Rubber Sheets?
Standard EPDM sponge materials are typically manufactured using sulphur-based curing systems. However, in sensitive applications, a sulphur-free alternative is required because sulphur-cured materials can corrode metals such as copper, silver and other components—ultimately leading to electrical failure.
Sulfur-free (Peroxide-Cured) EPDM eliminates this risk. With improved temperature and chemical resistance, as well as a corrosion-free curing process, this material is safe for use in electronics, lighting, electrical housings, and other precision applications where preventing metal degradation is essential.
Why Use Sulphur-Free EPDM Sponge Sheets?
Sulphur-free EPDM is a closed-cell sponge that provides effective thermal insulation along with excellent shock and vibration absorption. It delivers substantial resistance to UV, ozone, dust, air and moisture while offering significantly improved chemical and temperature resistance over standard EPDM grades.
Supplying this material in sheet form offers customers the flexibility to cut their own strips, pads, gaskets and components on demand. It also allows customers to purchase only the quantities they need, reducing waste and avoiding unnecessary material costs.
The Benefits of Using Sulphur-Free EPDM Sponge
- Excellent noise, vibration and shock reduction
- Naturally compressible for strong air and moisture sealing
- Closed-cell construction prevents mould and bacterial growth.
- Reliable performance across multiple applications and industries
- Easy to convert into pads, strips, gaskets and components
- Strong adhesion compatibility with most adhesives
- Helps prevent equipment failure caused by sulphur-induced metal corrosion
Grades Of EPDM Sponge Sheet Available
Medium-Density EPDM: A closed-cell material that is airtight, watertight and resistant to UV, ozone, ageing and a wide temperature range of -20°C to +85°C. It offers sound electrical insulation and resistance to diluted acids, alkalis and weathering. This material has been tested for flammability in accordance with FMVSS 302 and UL 94 HBF.
High Temperature EPDM Foam: Closed cell, highly flexible and durable in extreme temperatures, ranging from -50°C to +128°C. Its strong thermal, insulation and mechanical characteristics make it suitable for HVAC, refrigeration, pipeline, automotive, white goods and construction applications.
Semi-Open Cell EPDM: Combines the flexibility of open-cell foam with the sealing performance of closed-cell sponge once compressed. Semi-open-cell EPDM allows limited ingress of air, dust, and moisture until compressed by approximately 80%, at which point it becomes effectively airtight and watertight.
Firm Grade EPDM Foam: A more durable and resilient grade, offering reduced compression under load and increased tear strength. Suitable for demanding sectors including automotive, marine, defence, white goods and construction.

Advantages Of Using Sulphur-Free EPDM Sheet
Sulphur-free EPDM sponge is chosen for many applications due to its enhanced performance and material safety. As a closed-cell material, it offers thermal insulation, vibration control, shock absorption and excellent sealing against dust, air and moisture—while also providing improved chemical and temperature resistance compared to standard EPDM.
Traditional sulphur-cured EPDM can react with metals such as copper and silver, leading to corrosion and equipment malfunction. Peroxide-cured EPDM eliminates this issue, making it ideal for applications such as lighting, electronics, electrical assemblies, and automotive components that involve metal.
Since this grade is manufactured in block form, it can be supplied as cut sheets, rolls for customer-cutting or bespoke fabricated components. Material can also be laminated or split to meet custom requirements, offering exceptional versatility for manufacturers and engineers.
