Viton Washers

Viton Washers

ASG can manufacture and supply washers using the highest quality materials sourced from suppliers across the world. This allows us to offer customers a wider selection of products, including some very specialist grades formulated for unique environments and applications. One such product is Viton sponge washers. Viton sponge has been specially formulated to resist extreme temperatures ranging from -25°C to +204°C, as well as a vast number of chemicals, liquids, and acids.

Viton sponge is manufactured in roll form with thicknesses starting at 3.18mm, which ASG can convert into various other products, including washers. In-house production ensures that high standards are maintained, consistently producing high-quality washers. Viton sponge washers are made using drawings or dimensions provided by our customers, ensuring the final product meets their exact specifications. Depending on the size and quantity of washers required, our production team selects from our range of atoms, autos, travelling head, or kiss cut pressing machines. For very large or thick washers, we can program our CNC (oscillating knife) to produce the washers most efficiently, keeping lead times and costs down.

What are Viton Sponge Washers?

Washers are flat rings (comprising an Outer Diameter (OD), Inner Diameter (ID), and thickness) cut from materials such as Viton sponge. They are placed between two surfaces to fill gaps, create a level surface, act as a spacer, or distribute pressure when tightened. Viton sponge is a closed-cell material and one of the many specialist materials offered by Advanced Seals & Gaskets, designed for extreme environments. The material is manufactured in roll form with thicknesses ranging from 3.18mm to 19.05mm, and it features a skin on both faces to enhance tear resistance during use and when washers are being cut.

    Why use Viton Sponge Washers?

Viton sponge washers offer a number of highly desirable properties, making them the first choice for sealing, gasketing, and insulating applications in harsh environments. Viton sponge washers have enhanced tear resistance due to the skin finish, a wide working temperature range of -20°C to +210°C, and excellent resistance to chemicals, fuel, ozone, weather, lubricants, animal and vegetable oils, and hydrocarbons. These properties make the washers suitable for high-temperature sealing in automotive applications, acoustic and vibration dampening in construction, and protection against oils, acids, and other chemicals.

    Benefits of Viton Sponge

    • Environmental resistance (ozone/weather)

    • High Chemical Resistance

    • Weather & hot water resistant

    • High Temperature Range

    • Fuel, oil, and lubricant resistance

    • Withstand Challenging Environments

The Advantages of Using Viton Sponge Washers

Using Viton sponge washers brings a number of advantages to customers and end-users. The material is high-performance, versatile, and durable, with increased strength from the skins that provide tear and puncture resistance. As a closed-cell sponge, even without the skins, the rolls of material can be used to manufacture a range of sealing components, including washers that prevent the ingress of air or fluid into the cell structure. Viton sponge rolls are available in a range of standard pre-manufactured thicknesses, which can be converted into washers, laminated to greater thicknesses, and fabricated to create very large or bespoke washers.
